At Ettrick & Yarrow we were shown the impressive e-bike collection, with bikes suitable for the hilly terrain and nearby forest tracks. Other successes include the purchase of the local marsh and the conversion of a farmstead into sustainable, affordable housing and workspaces.
Thank you to all the N76 partners and guests who joined us on our adventure this week! We visited @beattockstation and Ettrick and Yarrow Community Development Company, where we found out about their low-carbon transport projects.

Ron from @beattockstation showed us the proposed sites for Beattock railway station and explained their long-standing and community-backed campaign for improved rail links with the central belt and elsewhere in Scotland.
We were joined on the visit by Jeanna, who is the Nithsdale Community Engagement Officer from @thirdsectordg. Thanks to Mike for making us both feel welcome!
A few photos from my visit to Closeburn, where I was shown some @LeafNith projects. These include the community garden, community ownership of the school field and the sustainable passivhaus development, which is part of NVLT's efforts to increase affordable housing.

I've included the circular route between Thornhill and Closeburn - definitely one for confident back-road cyclists, but full of good views. Really impressed that the battery only went down one bar since picking the bike up. Thanks to Senga and Christian for the bike loan. 2/2
I had the chance to test out an e-bike from @KPTDevTrust yesterday, as part of my visit to Closeburn. I'd been warned of one or two hills, but the e-bike handled them well and I felt quite smug going up one of the steeper inclines in "turbo" mode. 1/2

Thank you to Mike and Kirsty from @LeafNith and Deb from Moniaive Initiative for sharing your communities and local transport concerns this week. Looking forward to working with you on your low-carbon transport plans.

The weather was kind for my visit to Sanquhar today. Thanks to Claudia for giving me a tour of the extensive path network, which Sanquhar Enterprise Company is upgrading so locals and visitors can explore the area on foot.

A few photos from a very enjoyable visit to @KPTDevTrust yesterday. Huge thanks to Senga for showing me around and making introductions. I canβt wait to visit the other N76 partners and see what theyβre getting up to.

We're inviting feedback on how we can work more effectively with communities across Scotland. Our draft Communities Strategy lays out ideas for managing Scotland's national forests and land to benefit local communities.

Particulate matter from emissions and other vehicular activity have pervaded our cities for much too long. This is an essential first step in safeguarding urban populations from the silent killers associated with congestion.
