Universal mental health care means the services needed are available, they are funded through public health insurance plans and free to the individual, and they are the same – no matter where a person lives or who they are.

If Ottawa does not get its fair share, the consequences will be tragic and long lasting. In our work with people experiencing homelessness who have a serious mental illness, the lack of a home is a major roadblock to their recovery.

We have been talking about this a lot. Rather than paying for the direct costs of doing research, institutions just expect that their employees can take on thousands of dollars worth of debt with no regard for their life circumstances. This is not #EDI.
What if 3 police officers died every week.
Or 3 teachers. 3 lawyers. 3 Rosedale residents. 3 people of almost any group, it'd be a huge crisis. But 3 homeless? Most people, including most at City Hall, do not give a damn. It's their fault...
It's our fault; everyone's. Society's.
📣 Call for Art Contributions 📣
As part of #SPAM2023, we are looking to feature art pieces from people with lived experience of homelessness on our website, event brochure, and other conference materials (like buttons!).
