Women For Change condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the horrific assault that took place at Milnerton High School where a group of boys violently attacked a Grade 10 learner.
The incident reportedly occurred on 16 October, shortly after classes ended. In the circulating video, a learner can be seen enduring both physical and verbal abuse while other students stand by without intervening. The footage is deeply distressing and underscores the urgent need to confront the culture of violence and bullying that continues to plague our schools.
We urge everyone to stop sharing and distributing the video immediately. The footage identifies minors and further harms those involved. Circulating such content violates the dignity, privacy, and protection rights of the children and retraumatises not only the victims but also countless others who have experienced similar violence.
This brutal attack is not “school misbehaviour” - it is a violent crime, and it must be treated as such. Schools must be spaces of safety and respect, not fear and humiliation. The Western Cape Education Department and Milnerton High School must take decisive disciplinary and restorative action, ensure accountability for all involved, and provide both counselling and long-term psychological support to the affected learners and their families.
We call on all schools across South Africa to implement comprehensive anti-bullying programmes, strengthen psychosocial support, and uphold a zero-tolerance policy toward violence, intimidation, and abuse in any form. No child should ever endure such brutality, especially in a place meant to nurture, educate, and protect them. We stand firmly with the victim, their family, and every learner who deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported. #womenforchange
@Abramjee Not suspension. Permanent and on record expulsion. This is not the first bullying incident this year alone. We are tired of the cover ups - hold that school accountable!
