The point here is simple: politics and the law; which side wins?

You live with the premise that parliamentary and judicial sovereignty can somehow be legitimately harnessed as a weapon against executive overreach.

I think you’re wrong.

In pretty much every society, including the Brits from whom we borrowed our laws, that question is resolved in favor of the side that faces the voters and wins a governing mandate.

I’ll use an example of the Trump administration -in a country that sanctions every non-mineral rich third world country leader for being anti-democratic-has taken the pitchfork and stabbed it into every legal protection against executive overreach and somehow, lawmakers have fallen in line.

That should be instructive. Politics eats rule of law for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
