Some songs make you wait for the chorus until the very end, then it just repeats forever. Journey’s "Don't Stop Believin’” holds out until 3:32. I wrote a Substack post about these kinds of songs. What songs am I missing? Drop them below. 👇

Honored to write a little bit about Charlie Parker for The New York Times. Thanks to all the wonderful musicians who contributed.

I've launched season 3 of my podcast Identified with Julian Pratt from the band Show Me The Body. Lots of amazing guests coming (Michelle Zauner, Matt Berninger, Brendan from Turnstile...) w/ new episodes every week.

New York has always been a huge part of Identified, and our first guest of the new season embodies the spirit of the city and has been shaped by it: Julian Pratt of the iconic post-hardcore band Show Me The Body.
Season 3 is our biggest yet and is right around the corner.
I’m excited to perform at Vision Festival 2026, Saturday June 27 in NYC. It’s the 30th anniversary, and my band includes Eri Yamamoto on piano, Luke Stewart on bass, and Chad Taylor on drums.

Happy birthday to one of the great bassists of all time, Cecil McBee. The first time I heard Cecil was on Grachan Moncur's great Blue Note album, Some Other Stuff. I was only 14 but could immediately hear that Cecil sounded quite different from what I'd heard other bassists do…
…but I also wanted to take a step back from writing about my father as a person and just honor the music. I put a lot of energy into it, and I'm thrilled to have it out in the world.
Roy Ayers Ubiquity's album and song Everybody Loves the Sunshine turned 50 last week, and as the anniversary approached, I wanted to write about it…

I look at this as the final piece of a trilogy, my melodic albums. Perhaps I’ll change up a bit next time. But I love melody, and I think I’ve found some nice ones here. A melodic free jazz album, interesting concept. Hoping some of you will give a listen!

A big thanks to my producer on my last 3 albums and this one, Nabil Ayers. You do a great job sensing which direction to go and keeping me focused. And to Michael Brennan for such a beautiful cover design, and Aaron Nevezie and Bunker Studio for the great engineering and mix.
