We received many sighting-reports over the holidays, seems birding was quite a thing! 😅 Best news might be Heintje (041T) is still alive, but lost his tracker, too. But all the other reports are valuable as well – thanks a lot! 🙏

Migration's done, #Bewick's are back! 🎉
89% of our tagged swans returned from their breeding areas. We have even news from some thought dead: Some had zero batteries charges which are now slowly recovering, and Bonnie has been spotted: she only lost her tracker, not her life!

Jane (351E) + partner were spotted near Cloppenburg. They are healthy, the transmitter is not: last position was on 8/5/2024 near Tallinn.
Last winter, they spent most of their time in 🇩🇰. Now they've chosen a different route - unfortunately without data. @_hanslinssen @niooknaw

...a stopover area for birds from the Caspian flyway. His autumn routes are typical NW-European flyway. Why...? We have never seen another Bewick's do this. 014T has a partner but the couple never brought any cygnets south. @nabu_MOIN @IBED_UvA @niooknaw @AnimalEcol_NIOO

Amazing to see GPS reveal the journeys of Bewick's 014T (Kai) @bewickiiontour. For the 3rd year in a row he made an incredible spring detour, crossing the Urals. Each year the detour was bigger, this year's highlight being a 10d stay in the Turgay lowlands of Kazakhstan, ...

Auch bei uns in der ETS kämpfen Biolog*innen und Ehrenamtliche seit Jahren um jedes flügge Küken. Für eine stabile Population brauchen die Vögel mind. 0,5 flügge Küken pro Revierpaar und Jahr. In diesem Jahr waren es im Untersuchungsgebiet leider nur 0,08😥

🦇 Am Samstag wollen wir bei einer Nachtwanderung mit Fledermaus-Detektoren den nächtlichen Jägern auf die Spur kommen - bis zu 8 Arten lassen sich in unserem idyllischen Dorf entdecken. Kommt vorbei!
