اگر یک جریان سیاسی می‌خواهد «قدرت» بسازد، نباید فقط مرزبندی کند، بلکه ائتلاف بسازد. باید سرمایه‌های اجتماعی را مدیریت کند. یک جریان بالغ می‌فهمد که حتی اگر با دیگران اختلاف فکری دارد، نمی‌تواند آدم‌هایی را که بخشی از اعتماد عمومی، شبکه ارتباطی و توان بسیج اجتماعی دارند را نادیده بگیرد یا حذف کند. با آن‌ها گفت‌وگو می‌کند، بر سر حداقل‌ها به توافق می‌رسد و سرمایه‌ی اجتماعی آن��ها را وارد یک بلوک بزرگ‌تر می‌کند.

حذف‌گرایی شاید در کوتاه‌مدت کار کند، اما در بلندمدت فقط تنهایی می‌آورد. تخریب چهره‌های اثرگذار، فقط آن‌ها را تضعیف نمی‌کند؛ کل میدان را فقیر می‌کند. نتیجه‌اش می‌شود چند گروه کوچک، پراکنده و فرسوده که هیچ‌کدام توان ایستادن مقابل یک قدرت سازمان‌یافته مثل جمهوری اسلامی را ندارند.

سیاست موثر یعنی هنر تجمیع نیروها، نه حذف. اگر نتوانیم سرمایه‌های اجتماعی همدیگر را تحمل و تبدیل به ائتلاف کنیم، پیش از آن‌که رقیب ما را شکست بدهد، خودمان خودمان را کوچک کرده‌ایم.

At the same time, behind closed doors they make false promises to your allies in Turkey and Qatar, yet publicly they wear the uniform of the IRGC — a terrorist organization — and chant “Death to America” in their parliament. A chant against the beautiful country of which you are President.
