Some asylum seekers in Indonesia say they’ve been waiting up to 13 years for their asylum applications to be processed. Others have been waiting for ten years or less. During this time, their children have been denied access to education, and they themselves have not had the right to work or live freely.

Over the past three years, they have consistently campaigned for an end to this prolonged situation. According to reports, at least 20 people have taken their own lives out of hopelessness.

Today, once again, asylum seekers are launching a new campaign, hoping their voices will finally be heard.

Under international humanitarian law and the Geneva Convention, they have the right to seek asylum and to live in peace. The #UNHCR is expected to address their plight.
