@ambermac .Heat pumps r great but price of electricity is not. Electricity costs 4x natural gas per kwH. And @Fordnation is building outrageously expensive nuclear and more gas plants-instead of inexpensive clean renewable energy. Heat pumps cut emissions only if the electricity is clean
#MEDIA: Today's $2B home retrofit announcement is a welcome step forward. This funding will lower heating costs and reduce climate pollution. But one policy can't be seen in isolation. Canada remains over 20 years behind on its climate targets.

"Ripping out these protected bike lanes against the will of Toronto city council is a colossal waste of $48 million. The province’s own experts know it will not ease traffic congestion, it will put people’s lives at risk…”
One of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen any politician do to any city.

@DhillonHariGTA .If Ontario insists on building nuclear that costs 4x the cost of renewables, then every home needs its own solar panels to be able to afford a heat pump. Electricity already costs 4x natural gas. And why are taxpayers subsidizing natural gas????
Huge! We need to facilitate transition to heat pumps at the user end and not mandates. Many continuously doubt Carney's commitment to climate policies. Here is his answer. Now let us have $40K interest free loan for solar panels too!
Prairies are the sunniest places in Canada. Just like custom-tailored oil furnace to heat pump switch in the Atlantic Canada, feds need a special rooftop solar and home battery program for prairie provinces.

@fullfactorial@TorontoStar .Heat pumps are much more efficient than natural gas. But the cost of electricity is 4x that of natural gas per kwH. Quit subsidizing natural gas and build more renewable energy. Ban gas appliances/ furnaces for new construction!
@TorontoStar .A heat pump is not a great deal as long as the price of electricity per KwH is 4x that of natural gas. Also why are gas lines being connected to new neighbourhoods (subsidized by taxpayers)? Why replace existing furnaces with heat pumps if one keeps adding new gas furnaces?
Just how unrepresentative is Canada's democracy right now? Here is how much support the premiers and PM have from among all registered voters.
If you're wondering why politicians seem so out of line from the average person, here is why.
Tuesday will be a sad day for Ontario. Ford's government is taking us backwards, spending millions taking away bike lanes in Toronto when people across Ontario desperately need money for hospitals, housing, schools and infrastructure.
Traffic in Toronto sucks, but instead of providing real solutions like public transit, Ford is performatively removing bike lanes as an expensive culture war stunt. This serves only to make gridlock worse and commuting more dangerous for both cyclists and drivers.
Once all the bike lanes are gone, and congestion hasn't improved, we will look back on this as a foolish act of self-sabotage by a government more interested in its own personal vendettas than in making Ontarians' lives better and more affordable.
The Liberals and Conservatives just voted together to attack labour, environmental, and Indigenous rights to fast-track corporate mega projects.
This is the exact same approach the Liberals fought under Stephen Harper. Now, they're bringing back that very same agenda and Harper is cheering from the sidelines.
We don’t save Canada by sacrificing our environment and constitutional protections on the altar of private profits. Bill C-39 is an unmitigated disaster, and Canadians will be fighting back.
