ADVERT: Every ambitious entrepreneur knows that you are only as good as your team. But finding, training, and affording top-tier talent is a challenge for growing SMEs.
To solve this, we will match entrepreneurs with pre-qualified, skilled individuals that are eager to build a successful career, and cover 50% of their salary for the first 6 months.
Through WeWork — Green and Decent Jobs for Youth project, businesses will get matched with skilled talent to help them find their next star employee.
The WeWork project is implemented by @SHONAGroup through The Good Green Business Accelerator in partnership with @EnabelinUganda.

TikTok science can leave you overconfident in your knowledge.
Evidence: Simplifying complex ideas makes them more compelling, but also fosters an illusion of deep understanding.
Beware of mistaking familiarity for fluency. Soundbites aren't substitutes for systematic study.

Respect is a social responsibility. Treating it as optional reveals a lack of concern for others.

"JO Grain Link Arua, located in Arua City, was established mainly because of my need to have feed for my pigs.
Before the @AWEinUganda program, I focused mainly on producing feeds in small quantities that could just be sufficient for my animals on the farm and selling to a few of my close farmer friends. However, after the AWE program, I actually noticed I could do a lot more and earn even better from the feeds that I was making because I learnt that the more I produced, the lower the costs were since the fixed cost at all times remained the same. Instead of making just 500kg, I moved to 1,000kg and later two tons which made more profits for me.
I have ably recorded my income, expenditures, and profits. This has helped me differentiate my business money from my personal finances that I get from other sources. We have had our staff trained in bookkeeping as well.
Instead of only making broken maize as feed, I have now been able to make posho, hence getting maize brand some of which I buy to feed the animals, and the posho being sold differently.
I have learnt marketing skills through the AWE program, and customer feedback is another key thing that I have learnt. I have also learnt that it is important to have repeat customers. As such, it’s important to have customer needs met so that they can continue buying and refer other people as well.
During this training, I started my Posho business with the brand names JP Maize Flour and JP Animal Feeds after we learnt about the importance of branding.
I so much appreciate this opportunity since it has exposed me to other business people with whom we have formed partnerships and hence a better point of coordination. Thanks to SHONA,@usmissionuganda and all other partners.

"Eklektos Enterprises Limited (Nator products) started in 2018 with fresh fruits and juices for individuals and functions (home-based industry). Our main aim was to provide safe and fresh fruits and juices to people, mostly in offices, by delivering to them.
It was noted that one of the fruits that is most preferred in Uganda is jackfruit. This made me (the director) want to know more about this fruit. So I started reading about it and I found out that everything on the jackfruit tree is useful and very nutritious. During the COVID-19 lockdown, offices were closed and we were out of business.
So I started developing some jackfruit-based products from home. In 2020, I applied to the National Agriculture Research Organisation (@narouganda) to be incubated and I was admitted in November 2020.
So far, we have three (3) products that are already selling well in 11 supermarkets in the Uganda market. That is; Jackfruit seeds powder, Jackfruit seeds & ginger powder and mixed herbs & spices.
Though I have a product that I like and it helps people balance their diet, hence maintaining their health, I needed to know how to do business the right way.
A friend pointed me to the @AWEinUganda program, I applied and I was admitted to cohort 7. It was really what I needed; from there, I now have my company fully registered with @URSBHQ, and I have a business plan with financials. Yes, I am paying myself a salary.

"Being a passionate body care formulator, my business was mostly involved with operations. Our shelves were full of products, sales were low and pockets were empty!
I learnt 3 key things in business; marketing, operations and finance. Money doesn't come from operations but from marketing. I've learnt to delegate operations by creating systems, selecting the right staff and standardizing.
I work closely with marketing and I closely watch the finances. I learnt to de-link cost from price, to keep improving both the perceived and real value of products. I classified my target market and now I create products that suit them.
I am grateful to @AWEinUganda , SHONA and @usmissionuganda, our great teachers for this opportunity. I recommend this course to all women entrepreneurs.

In Uganda, excess fat is often a sign of wealth and can help get a bank loan, a new study found. The country is one of the poorest nations, and nearly half the population eats fewer calories than they need each day. https://t.co/7MWi14QGmf
Strong relationships don’t need agreement. They need alignment.
Agreement is having identical opinions. Alignment is having shared values.
Agreement is taking the same path. Alignment is heading in the same direction.
Closeness is a matter of commitment, not consensus.
@Davisthedoc@StanChartUGA After 7 years with StanChartUGA , am soon closing my relationship with them too. I have seen terrible service in last 4 years and am fed up
I finally ended my 1-sided, 10-year relationship with @StanChartUGA Business banking.
Billions transacted but never, not even once, have they agreed to an overdraft, letter of credit, a salary loan or any kind of financing.
The last straw was their bread crumbing approach to what should be a basic, straight forward due diligence/ KYC. An incompetent relationship manger who I have never met, couldn’t make heads or tails of our documentation and with poor communication skills instead had our account blocked with payments bouncing with no notice to us.
If you’re not ‘doing business’ with your bank, as a business, you should find another bank otherwise they’re just a combination safe, a ledger, fees collector and an administrative burden.

Many people see hard work as a sign of virtue. But a strong work ethic doesn't guarantee strong ethics.
Instead of attaching worth to the effort people expend, we should prize the values they exemplify.
Character is a function of generosity and integrity, not industriousness.
