ActionAid Kenya had the privilege of hosting Naima Ali, the Mayor of Southwark and a passionate advocate for social justice, at our Nairobi offices. Naima has been a powerful voice in the fight against Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) and was appointed as an FGM/C Ambassador for Southwark earlier this year.
During her visit, we explored potential collaborations aimed at advancing our shared goal of ending #FGM/C and empowering #women and #girls. We also had the opportunity to introduce Naima to our Kenya TGG-ALM girl council members, who shared their inspiring stories as young anti-FGM champions from Isiolo, Narok, and Garissa counties.
We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and are grateful for Naima’s commitment to supporting our work. Together, we can make significant strides toward a future where every girl and woman lives free from the threat of FGM/C.

#THE HISTORY BEHIND THE DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD
On June 16, 1976, nearly ten thousand black students from Soweto, South Africa, marched the streets to protest the poor quality of their education. They marched as a way to demonstrate their disapproval of the Black Education Act.
