Sport is founded on the fundamental principles of fair play, equal opportunities and level playing fields. Most athletes are therefore pragmatic in accepting defeat when they’ve been fairly beaten, when both athletes or teams had equal opportunity due to similar preparation and recovery times.
At the recent #AsianGames in Nagoya there were instances of football and volleyball teams arriving late for matches after being taken to the wrong venues. And some outdoor sports had no contingency plans for re-scheduling due to bad weather. 2 cricket QF were therefore decided by the teams’ world rankings rather than by an actual match.
The #badminton schedule required players to play 2 matches in one day, with play finishing at 2am with literally no spectators present. Media obligations, warm downs, a 1-hour drive back to the hotel, and the need to eat, meant the 2 latest to finish, Sindhu and Christie, probably didn’t get to sleep before 4am. The quarterfinals then started at 9.30am that same morning!
Both lost their QF matches. Christie losing for the first time in 11 meetings to Loh Kean Yew who finished his previous match at 6.20pm, almost 8 hours before Christie finished at 2am.
Despite the scheduling issues, there was some wonderful badminton and notable achievements. An Se Young became the first player to win 2 WS Gold medals. Vitidsarn became the first badminton player from Thailand to win individual Gold. And Loh Kean Yew’s Silver was a first individual medal for Singapore.
The WD final was clearly the outstanding match on finals day, despite the sad ending with Liu Sheng Shu struggling with cramp. But Baek/Lee eventually became the first Korean pair to win Gold for 24 years. Carnando/Marthin won 2 Golds, the MD and the Men’s Team having been an integral part of Indonesia’s stunning performance in coming from 0-2 in the final against China.
Whilst I feel privileged to have witnessed some wonderful badminton, I also feel desperately sorry for all those whose lifelong dreams, and ability to perform to their best, were compromised by logistical or organisational issues, as elimination in such circumstances cuts deep and is harder to accept.

@botking666@110Auckland@DeepikaBhardwaj Patriarchy creates more female toxicity FYI. Y'all conveniently ignore the 1000+ rape and domestic abus cases every day and cry for 1 or 2 females taking advantage of alimony. It is wrong. But alimony benefits sooo many female victims of abuse. Do we care? No. Pathetic.
SPECIAL APPLAUSE FOR THE GIRLS! 🇮🇳❤️
Indian women won 38 medals at the Asian Games 2026, exactly the same number as the men.
👩 Women - 11🥇 11🥈 16🥉 = 38 medals
👨 Men - 7🥇 14🥈 17🥉 = 38 medals
🤝 Mixed - 3🥇 2🥈 4🥉 = 9 medals
The Women won 11 Gold medals, compared with 7 by the men 💪
TAKE A BOW, GIRLS, FOR LEADING INDIA’S CAMPAIGN TO FOURTH PLACE! 🙇♀️🥹
There's a structural problem with TOPS. It is too limited in number.
When you select a few and give them a very big leg up in training, equipment and facilities, it creates a very wide gulf between them and the other domestic talents, who don't have this access.
Therefore It becomes virtually impossible for others to overcome this advantage, unless otherwise you have unreal talent.
The TOPS athletes keep dominating domestic trials and nationals, simply because they are better equipped and better coached. They don't face the relentless competition that they face in Olympics / Asian Games, internally.
Which is why you see the same faces representing India in these meets despite years of international underperformance.
You want India to get more medals, increase TOPS to 2500 athletes. Create heavy internal completion. Then see the magic happen.
As for money, well you can find enough of it under the mattress of one single municipal babu that can fund TOPS for the next decade.
Sorry, just need to say this. I am delighted for how Kumkum has performed & for Indian archery's recurve success. And I am aware she has missed her opportunities in the past, but the disrespect for Deepika Kumari feels a bit over the top & unnecessary. 🙏🏼🏹

I am so happy that some residences of Shivaji park are getting sensitive about the noise pollution and asking the authorities to cancel the protest of CJP today at Shivaji park . I am hundred percent sure that they will raise the same objection with the same intensity if not more when ever there is any jalsa of any political party of Maharashtra is planned at Shivaji park ,
@Raj9351Rajput@vicharabhio All other countries are improving in 2-3x with their investment and support whereas we are stagnant. China is investing so much in squash. There are apparently, courts all over the country to promote it. In india, it is still a sport for elites
@Raj9351Rajput@vicharabhio In which sport do these athletes win? In long distance running, for which they are genetically gifted. Secondly, they also get training in USA. How about you watch sports all year around to know that?
