Day 5 of @DeepIndaba 2026 was packed with thought-provoking conversations, hands-on learning, and ideas that challenge how we think about the future of AI in Africa.
Across multiple tracks, practical workshops explored AI applications, model deployment, and specialised frameworks, giving participants the opportunity to move from theory to real-world implementation.
At the @dsn_ai_network x @naishofficial Workshop, the conversation centred on how AI, Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), and local-language technologies can come together to build more inclusive, context-aware, and scalable public services across Africa. One key takeaway stood out: DPI becomes significantly more impactful when layered with AI that is personalised, contextualised, and built around local languages. Combined with strong governance and digital literacy, these technologies can strengthen citizen agency and ensure that AI expands access rather than creates new barriers.
Our Chief Technical Officer, @IfeAdebara , also joined academics and industry leaders for a dedicated Faculty Engagement Session hosted by the Deep Learning Indaba team. The session tackled an important question: Faculty, Industry Linkage: Who Builds, Who Owns, Who Benefits? The conversation explored how stronger collaboration between academia and industry can create pathways for research, innovation, talent development, and real-world impact.
Day 5 reminded us that the future of AI in Africa will not be built by technology alone, but by the people, partnerships, and systems that make that technology work for everyone.

Nigeria's emergence as the leading African country in the 2026 @GlobalIndexRAI is an important affirmation of our belief that Africa must not only participate in the AI revolution but also help shape how these technologies are governed and deployed globally.
Moving up 42 places to rank 38th globally and 1st in Africa reflects the deliberate work being done to build an AI ecosystem that is inclusive, responsible, and aligned with our development priorities.
It is also encouraging to see Nigeria recognised as a global "Bright Spot" for advancing AI literacy, with initiatives such as our National AI Strategy (NAIS) and the 3 Million Technical Talent programme receiving international recognition.
As we continue to invest in digital infrastructure, talent, and governance frameworks, our focus remains on ensuring that Artificial Intelligence delivers real value for our people and supports H.E. President @officialABAT's vision of building a $1 trillion economy powered by innovation, productivity, and inclusive growth.

Missed the event? here are some highlights from the official launch of NAISH and the unveiling of SAID Challenge. Sincere appreciation to the @FMCIDENigeria, @gatesfoundation, @Galaxybackbone, @LBSNigeria & every stakeholder whose collaboration made this milestone possible.#NAISH
The future of AI isn't built by one organisation. It is built by an ecosystem. The launch of NAISH brought together the people and institutions committed to moving AI beyond promising ideas to real-world impact.
This is where collaboration begins!
#NAISH#AIForDevelopment
Today, through the Nigeria AI Scaling Hub (NAISH), we announced Nigeria's national shared compute infrastructure hosted by @Galaxybackbone and backed by the @gatesfoundation. Access to compute has become one of the defining constraints to AI innovation globally, so by creating shared national infrastructure, we can significantly reduce the barriers facing researchers, startups and public institutions, enabling them to build world-class AI solutions here in Nigeria.
The Nigeria AI Scaling Hub (NAISH) is a national platform established to accelerate the adoption and scaling of Artificial Intelligence across Nigeria by connecting innovators, researchers, startups, government, academia and development partners. It provides the infrastructure, partnerships and support needed to move proven AI solutions from pilot to large-scale deployment, while expanding access to critical resources such as shared compute, strengthening collaboration across the ecosystem, and enabling AI innovation to address national priorities and compete globally.
The launch of the Hub also marks the commencement of the Scaling AI for Development (SAID) Challenge, a practical initiative that will connect government institutions with Nigerian AI startups to solve real public sector challenges.
My sincere appreciation to the @gatesfoundation, @LBSNigeria, @Galaxybackbone and every partner helping to build an AI ecosystem that is open, inclusive and capable of delivering meaningful impact for Nigerians.
Applications for the Scaling AI for Development (SAID) Challenge are now open. If you are building proven AI solutions that can improve public service delivery, I encourage you to apply at https://t.co/mdF3v42M3h.

Nigeria is home to a growing ecosystem of innovators using AI to solve real-world challenges across health, agriculture, education, financial services, and public service delivery. Yet, one challenge remains: how do we move proven AI solutions from pilots to impact at scale?
Over the next few years, NAISH will work alongside government, innovators, academia, private sector leaders, and development partners to scale the responsible adoption of AI across health, agriculture, education, financial services, and public service delivery.
