How did historians become India’s foremost public intellectuals? And how "neutral" can history writing truly be when shaped by partisan political protagonists? I review Shaan Kashyap’s “Who Owns the Past?”, in @Openthemag . https://t.co/F0zGCNLSwn

#OutlookMagazine | The term ‘ethnicity’ has always been a murky concept for me. Not because I don’t understand the theoretical descriptions, but simply because I could not define it for myself; or rather, I found it difficult to identify my own. It would not be a stretch to claim that in my experience, I have felt considerably estranged from culture itself, like a balloon left adrift in the air, floating in limbo, unknowing of its origin and destination. This peculiar and persistent sense of being ‘in-between’ (known or unknown objects) is what sociologists describe as liminality.
On the 208th birth anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, read IPS officer Najmul Hoda @najmul_hoda's article on what the 19th-century Indian Muslim reformer, philosopher, and educationist who founded AMU would have done today

A must read article for students of Indian Nationalism!Very succinctly pointing out that “for Muslims to be fully at home in India they would have to abandon the self-created binary between belief and belonging!” How brilliantly diagnosed! Thx @najmul_hoda ji!
India’s secularism is cultural; rooted in Sarva Dharma Sama Bhava, a concept embodying the equality of all religions; and Ekam Sat Vipra Bahuda Vedanti — the Truth is One, but sages call it by different names.

@madhutrehan Brought tears to my eyes. Rashmi is a mighty woman who rose up to this challenge, and shaped @SuhridSD into a fine young man and an artist about to take the world by storm very soon. This mother son duo is an inspiration for everyone. God bless both.
