Agency ≠ Freedom of Choice
Elder Bednar (@BednarDavidA) taught that the purpose of agency is to choose to follow God.
Listen to Elder Bednar’s profound explanation.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I’d say the way we discern truth from error in our scriptures isn’t about expecting every word to be infallible, but about seeking personal revelation through the Holy Ghost. The Doctrine and Covenants 9:8-9 teaches that we study things out in our mind, then ask God if it’s right, and He’ll confirm it to us by the Spirit. That’s our method. prayer, scripture study, and listening to the promptings of the Spirit, which Jesus promised in John 16:13 would guide us into all truth.
Sure, the scriptures aren’t perfect in every detail because human hands wrote them down, but we believe they contain the word of God as far as they’re translated correctly (Articles of Faith #8). When there’s confusion, we turn to living prophets, like in Amos 3:7, where the Lord says He reveals His secrets through His servants. The Prophet Russel M. Nelson, First Presidency, and Quorum of the Twelve, guided by revelation, help clarify doctrine, as seen in Doctrine and Covenants 107:27. It’s not about blind trust, it’s about a living, ongoing relationship with God to sort out what’s true.
our approach invites everyone to test it for themselves, like Moroni 10:4-5 invites, rather than leaning solely on tradition.
I frequently listen to Erying and Holland, and I believe it's important to continue seeking guidance from those who truly embody the gospel. Apologists may have a deep understanding of the faith, their actions often don't reflect its principles. Focus on the chosen disciples of Christ who live out these teachings authentically. 💪🏼
@CagedBirdATL @orthodoxluigi Don’t be sorry, none of us are actually offended! Us members are confident with what we teach and believe because we preach the good news. Take care friend
@CagedBirdATL @orthodoxluigi Degrading and mockery is not love. He is not encouraging others, he is making fun of them. He knows the Bible, sure… but he is not a disciple of Christ. Heavenly wisdom is pure, peaceable, and full of mercy.
James 3:13-18
@orthodoxluigi 3rd Nephi is when Jesus comes to the Americas and personally teaches the Nephites. The Book of Mormon, alongside the Bible, is not a quote book, so read it in context👍🏼
@orthodoxluigi @ScottK@PTSPentax@TheGermanicist I definitely use grok to correct my grammar and punctuation errors if needed👍🏼 I am guilty of sweaty hands during debates. Sue me
