But this is what I lovedddd about us growing up and our community/culture. It was a moment in time. Just like the small Just Do It bags that hardly fit our books, fat ties, Tigger pouches, Kickers. It was a subculture of style. Those eras will never be replicated again lol
Is it just me, or does no one on here actually sound like they are healthy? I don’t think a lot of people realize that many of the supplements they’re taking are chronically disrupting their microbiome. This is one of the asymmetrical, hidden risks inherent in biohacking and naive interventionism : you think you’re taking something that’s a high-leverage/ROI intervention, but because you don’t understand the full scope of the effects, you end up harming a critical system that ultimately ends up bottlenecking (or even entirely sabotaging) the initial goal.
Berberine is a good example. You take it because you want to regulate blood sugar and support your cardiovascular health. But the longer you use it, the more you incur these “hidden” costs, one being the fact that it’s a powerful antimicrobial, which could theoretically nuke your microbiome. And if we really want to think about the systems that have the most leverage on things like metabolic health, inflammation and CVD risk…it’s the gut microbiome.
I can distinctly remember a point in my life where I truly believed I was “doing everything right”. Diet was solid, trainimg was solid, supplements were solid. On paper it looked mostly identical to what I do now. The only difference? I was taking things that were either quietly sabotaging my gut (like herbal antimicrobials) or I was listening to idiots who tell you you don’t need to take probiotics (most people actually do, they just need to be rotated and human-native strains).
Imagine being that dialled in but then being bloated and gassy all the time with a CRP of 10 and a face full of acne.
Maybe something like berberine isn’t an issue by itself. But how many other things are you taking (for a highly specific outcome or goal) that have an overlapping negative impact on the gut? That you never cycle on and off?
We don’t have the answers to a lot of these questions, but I do find it concerning how many people in this community have unresolved digestive issues despite supposedly “doing everything right.” The vast majority of even otherwise “health-conscious” people on here still have loose stool, gas, bloating, etc.
It doesn’t matter that you’re taking Epitalon, 9-ME-BC, royal jelly, noopept, and 500 other nootropics. You’re still shitting sludge dude. Wake up. Until you fix that, your cognition is always going to be cooked. In fact, people that respond in a profoundly positive way to nootropics usually just have poor baseline health. None of these things should be making you feel “alive again”.
I think taking a microbiome-centric approach (framing everything around asking the question “will this help or harm my gut”) is a good general heuristic for basing 90% of your decisions. For supplements and lifestyle behaviors that are a daily or highly consistent aspect of your routine, it should be 100%.
Even if you have performance goals and don’t care about health whatsoever, you just won’t absorb even half of the ergogenics or food you take when you have dysbiosis. SIBO especially.
the reason we have to "protein" and "fiber" yall to DEATH is because those are the two things people often have to PLAN for in order to consume enough of. Carbs (especially simple and highly processed ones) and fats are in abundance everywhere and often OVERconsumed compared to
We need to talk about why there were Nigerian-Brits who decided to be Reform candidates.
I mean we know why but we still need to discuss this urgently.
