Mie Prefecture announced new security measures after detecting malware on 47 USB drives used across 37 government departments. The investigation found that 14 of the infected USB drives were personally owned by employees, highlighting weaknesses in the existing policy that allowed personal USB devices with managerial approval.
The prefecture will ban the use of personal USB drives and introduce automatic malware scanning for removable media to strengthen security.
