I don't want a "Smart Fridge" that orders milk for me. I want a fridge that lasts 25 years and doesn't have a privacy policy that allows it to share my late-night snacking habits with my health insurance provider.
Socially smart people often won’t tell you to your face when they disagree with you because they can sense intuitively that you are too attached to the outcome of the interaction and that you couldn’t handle disagreement. So they will just agree with you… but then you might not hear from them again.
It’s easy to assume this is “fake” when really it’s just what intelligent people do to protect their energy. If you went around saying what you really thought all of the time you’d make way too many enemies, and get in way too many unproductive arguments (cortisol spikes = aging)
Of course the only way to make genuine connections is to say what you really think… but especially if you intend to be deeply involved in society, you must train your intuition to know who can take it.
I hate how aggressive algorithms have become. You like one post and your entire timeline is flooded with similar posts in seconds, it’s so easy to build yourself an echo chamber.
Food trucks were supposed to be the budget option. Now they cost the same as sit-down restaurants. Eating on a sidewalk shouldn’t cost restaurant prices.
GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD
Allow yourself to be cringe. Talk to people. Have fun. Share your interests. Move your body. Socialize more. Learn to dance. Feel the music. Partymaxxing. Make memories. Laugh out loud. All sweaty. Tears of joy. Randomly remembering hilarious situations.
When you spend so much time in your head, not only does it become hard for you to interact with others, but it also prevents you from living fully.
Allow yourself to just exist. Just be.
Enjoy the present moment.
Getting tired of this shit. I saw an account quoting the Mayor of Paris and drawing conclusions about the French, which would be like treating Mamdani’s utterances as representative of most Americans, which I’m sure most Americans wouldn’t like. In the actual country of France there is a massive shortage of A/C units because people are buying all the A/C units they can which they wouldn’t do if they were poor or ideologically opposed
Being part of a generation that was told “Wikipedia is not a source” makes it genuinely baffling to me that jobs are now telling people to just use ChatGPT for everything.
one time they had france week in the town square of my city. i live in germany so basically a bunch of french dudes just came over and set up stands of olives and bread and cheese. i went to the cheese stand and tried a cheese and it was the best cheese i’ve ever tasted in my life. i texted my husband “the french are here. i just had life changing cheese.” “buy some cheese” he goes. the cheese man speaks french. i do not speak french. we get by in broken german and english. i accidentally ordered too much cheese. he cut off a huge chunk and wrapped it. it was too late. the cheese cost €40. i told my husband “i’m so sorry. i’m so sorry i didn’t mean to spend €40 on cheese.” he tries the cheese. “can you go back and get more cheese?” i think we spent close to €100 on cheese that week.
