A Japanese man named Sakae Kato has dedicated his life caring for the animals that were abandoned after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster.
The 57-year-old spends around $7,000 a month taking care of the animals, and he has been doing this for the last ten years.
When asked about why he stayed behind in the contaminated zone, he said, “I want to make sure I am here to take care of the last one. After that I want to die, whether that be a day or hour later.”
