I’m BTS first. Always.
Long before I became ARMY, I had strong opinions about how the US industry has treated minorities and marginalized artists.
BTS didn’t create those concerns for me, this is a decades long issue of abuse.
Honestly, one of the reasons I became ARMY was because I knew exactly what BTS would be up against in the U.S. industry.
I knew their talent alone wouldn’t protect them from bias, double standards, or being underestimated.
They would need massive support here and I wanted to be a part of that for them. That support matters.
BTS built their success differently. It wasn’t handed to them by a U.S. label. It wasn’t created by industry connections. It wasn’t some manufactured push.
It was BTS + ARMY.
Our support gives them something most artists never get: the freedom to make their own choices without depending on industry gatekeepers.
So with all the conversations, new categories, and award season drama starting to heat up, my focus stays the same:
Whatever BTS decides to do, I’m with them.
100%.
This is shaping up to be a messy and controversial award season, and more than ever, we need to stay focused, stay united, and keep supporting them the way we always have.
The story behind OUTRO: TEAR
Yoongi "The lyrics for 'TEAR' were written for the members. When I was writing the melody, at the time we were deeply contemplating whether we should quit or not. When I played the song for the members, we all cried together."
Context: The interviews were conducted in 2019, during their Speak Yourself extension world tour. The documentary series BREAK THE SILENCE was released in May of 2020, only a few months after the cancelled Map Of The Soul Tour was set to begin.
After all the interviews, between the members in SUCHWITA and during so many of their group and individual activities over the last 2 years, it is safe to assume that the members are now well and truly over the slump that pressured them during the years of 2017 - 2018. In my opinion, if anything positive came out of the pandemic, just like many of us around the world, Bangtan was able to step back, recalibrate, reprioritise and draft a new map of what Bangtan is to look like for the next 7 years, at least, especially after the announcement of the contract renewal on September 2023.
As to what post-MS Bangtan looks like, only time will tell, but I'm not going anywhere ☺💜
