I did everything “right” and somehow still ended up wondering when my actual life was supposed to start.
My mom used to tell me:
“Don’t be like these girls running around. Build a life you’ll be proud of.”
So I did.
At 18:
Mom: Focus on school. Boys will still be there.
Me: Okay.
I graduated with honors.
At 22:
Aunt: Get a real career before you start having fun.
Me: Makes sense.
I landed the corporate job.
Promotions came. Better salary. Better title.
Every Sunday, I was in church.
Then everybody started asking:
“So when are you getting married?”
I met a good man.
We dated.
Got married.
Bought the brick house with the pretty yard.
Had two kids, one boy and one girl.
My mom cried.
Mom: Look at you. You did everything right.
And she wasn't wrong.
On paper?
I WON.
Career.
Husband.
Kids.
House.
Big Thanksgiving dinners with everybody squeezed around my table.
Christmas tree touching the ceiling.
Family photos where everybody matched.
Then one night, after everybody had gone home, I was cleaning the kitchen with my sister.
She looked at me and said:
“You ever miss being young?”
I laughed.
Me: Girl, I'm still young.
Sister: That's not what I asked.
That shut me up.
Because suddenly I started thinking about all the things I kept postponing.
The girls' trips I skipped.
The random dates I declined.
The cities I wanted to live in.
The stupid mistakes I was too scared to make.
The years I spent trying so hard to be somebody's definition of a “good woman.”
My sister said:
“You regret your family?”
Me: Absolutely not.
Sister: Then what's wrong?
I looked around my beautiful kitchen and said:
“I think I spent my whole life preparing for a life I never stopped to ask if I actually wanted.”
She went quiet.
Then she asked:
“So what would you tell 21-year-old you?”
I didn't even hesitate.
“Girl, go outside.”
She started laughing.
Me: I'm serious. Date the fine man. Take the trip. Stay out too late sometimes. Make a few dumb decisions. Stop auditioning for Woman of the Year.
Sister: So basically... be a hoe? .............
Good morning beautiful people❤️
My hubby always tells me one of the reasons he married me was because I have a killer smile. 😁
Is it true, abi he just dey whine me? 😩😂
🌼 SON YE-JIN ON WHAT LIFE IS REALLY LIKE AS A WIFE, A MOTHER AND ONE OF KOREA’S BIGGEST ACTRESSES. ❤️
And honestly… her life sounds a lot more ordinary than you might expect.
After marrying Hyun Bin and becoming a mother, Son Ye-jin stepped away from acting for about two years and focused heavily on raising their son.
She has said that becoming a mother changed her life from 1 to 10.
Her first priority became being a mom.
But here's the interesting part…
She still loves being an actress.
She recently said parenting is harder than work. 🪷
She and Hyun Bin take turns putting their son to sleep, share household responsibilities, and even when they're both busy with their careers, they're still just trying to figure out parenting like everyone else.
She described them as “ordinary parents.” ❤️
And motherhood has also changed the way she acts.
She says her world has expanded because she now understands a completely different side of life.
Experiences she might not have understood when she was younger now give her more emotional material to draw from as an actress.
And I love this part…
She doesn't see motherhood as the end of her career.
Going to work actually gives her a sense of happiness and refreshes her.
So she's not choosing between being a mother and being Son Ye-jin the actress.
She's learning how to be both.
And after watching her return in The Scandal, you can actually see that difference.
She's older.
She's married.
She's a mother.
And somehow, she seems even more interested in playing complicated women.
Son Ye-jin really entered a completely new chapter of her life… without giving up the part of herself that made her fall in love with acting in the first place. ❤️
A guy on a group trip to Thailand was lecturing all of us at the gate about his “Ultra-Light One-Bag Travel Philosophy.” He was holding a tiny 10-liter backpack and scoffed, “You guys are carrying way too much baggage. I only pack two shirts and a toothbrush. True freedom is traveling light.” By day two of the trip, I noticed something strange and asked him, “Hey, why are you wearing my spare hoodie, using my roommate’s sunscreen, and charging your phone with my power bank?
He smiled and said...
Happy birthday to my beautiful wife, my love, my gift from God. ❤️
I am deeply grateful to God for giving me you. Thank you for being my partner, my safe place, my joy, and one of the greatest blessings in my life. Loving you has been one of the most beautiful experiences of my life, and I never take the privilege of calling you my wife for granted.
Today, I celebrate not just the woman you are, but the woman you continue to become. I pray this new year brings you greater joy, deeper fulfilment, divine favour, and everything your heart desires.
I love you deeply, and I’m grateful that I get to do life with you.
Happy birthday, my love. ❤️🥂
Anyone getting married and adds people to a WhatsApp group to support them is not fit to marry — Prophet Okeke
Prophet Emmanuel Okeke has stirred reactions after declaring that men who cannot independently raise money for their weddings should reconsider getting married.
Speaking about couples who create WhatsApp groups to solicit financial support for their weddings, the cleric said anyone who needs others to contribute money before he can marry is not fit for marriage.
According to him, marriage should come with financial responsibility, and men should be prepared to bear the sacrifices involved rather than depend on contributions from friends and family.
“You are getting married, and then you are putting us in a group to support you. If you are not old enough to raise money for marriage, you don’t need to marry,” he said.
He added, “If you need us to support you to marry, you should not marry, you are not fit to marry.”
The prophet further warned men against creating WhatsApp groups specifically to raise money for their weddings, insisting that being unable to fund the marriage themselves shows they are not ready for the responsibility.
“If you create a WhatsApp group for us to support you to marry, you are not fit for marriage. If you cannot be able to raise money to marry a woman and you need our contribution, you won’t like it,you are not fit for marriage,” he stated.
Okeke also argued that going through the financial challenges of getting married could make a man more willing to endure difficulties in the marriage.
“You need to go through the marriage pain so that when your wife say you’re a fool, you will endure her, because you know if you divorce her, you know what you go through to marry another one,” he said.
Today is our wedding anniversary-52 years. Time passes so incredibly fast. So blessed to be happy and healthy and have a wonderful family. Life is grand!
