The end of Viktor Orbán’s autocratic regime is a victory not just for Hungary, but for people who value democracy around the world.
Congratulations to Tisza, to incoming leader Péter Magyar, and to Hungarians everywhere.
McFaul: Trump doesn't get it. NATO is a defensive alliance.
NATO didn't fight in Vietnam with us, with the French in Algeria, with the Portuguese in Angola and Mozambique, or with the UK in the Falklands.
The only time they fought together was after Sep 11.
When Ukraine agreed to give up nuclear weapons, the price that the other side had to pay had to be fair. I think NATO membership was the smallest thing leaders of Ukraine had to get in exchange for the nuclear arms. What did we get? Nothing. It was not a fair game, and a big mistake.
Not only a Ukrainian mistake, but also a mistake by other signatories of the Budapest Memorandum. These are nuclear countries. If they asked you to give up nuclear weapons, they should have provided you with a security umbrella. Perhaps a nuclear umbrella.
Ultimately, all of it was a deception. Our nuclear weapons were largely transferred to Russia. For example, strategic aircraft that Russia now uses against us in this war.
From an interview on The Rest Is Politics podcast (1/5).
Pope Leo XIV is not ‘woke’, nor a Marxist, nor a progressive, nor a leftist.
The Pope is simply a Christian.
When he defends the poor and the innocent, he is following the Gospel.
When he denounces injustice, he is imitating Christ.
When he speaks for the poor, he is repeating word for word the Sermon on the Mount.
Those who are angry at him are not fighting with Pope Leo XIV.
They are fighting with Christ.
Because it was Jesus who said: ‘Whatever you did for the least of my brothers, you did for me.’
Rejecting the Pope for being merciful is not something a Christian does.
The problem is not that Leo XIV has strayed from Christ.
The problem is that some have strayed so far from the Gospel that they no longer recognize it when they see it.
Hundreds of millions of people throughout the world are immersed in extreme poverty. Yet, disproportionate wealth remains in the hands of a few. It is an unjust scenario, in the face of which we cannot fail to question ourselves and commit to change things. There is no lack of resources at the root of disparities, but the need to address solvable problems related to a more equitable distribution of wealth, to be achieved with moral sense and honesty.
Joe Biden brought our country back from the brink of economic collapse. He brought back manufacturing jobs, he had job growth every single month of his presidency, unemployment was low, Black unemployment was at its lowest level in EVER IN HISTORY.
Kamala Harris traveled across the world rebuilding our relationships with our allies, they all said she was amazing. She was the tie breaking vote for several big pieces of legislation.
WE HAD IT ALL. And yall destroyed it, you have destroyed this country, it will take the rest of our lives to fix this. We will spend the rest of our lives trying to restore our country to what it was in October 2024.
In my lifetime, not once has a Democrat entered the White House without a massive mess to clean up from the Republican who occupied the office before them.
I never imagined that after meeting Matt during his deployment to Poland last year, I’d be on the phone with him and his wife today as she was released from ICE detention.
I’m happy Annie is back with her husband and family where she belongs. They never should have gone through this painful process, but far too many families like theirs are because of this administration.

@HillaryClinton warned us:
“This is not someone who should ever have the nuclear codes – because it’s not hard to imagine Donald Trump leading us into a war just because somebody got under his very thin skin.”
🚨 MAJOR NEWS: Pope Leo XIV just declared the Iran War unjust.
Called it a war crime. Said it is “not solving anything.”
And told Americans directly — call Congress.
End this war.
The United States, the United Kingdom, and Russia signed the Budapest Memorandum in 1994.
The deal was simple: Ukraine surrendered its massive nuclear arsenal, and in return, those powers promised to respect its sovereignty.
Everyone needs to remember that
Donald Trump says America can't afford daycare or Medicaid.
But he's spent $100 million of your money on golf in 15 months.
The money is there – he just decided it wasn't for you.
