Dear Charlie,
I still can’t believe you’re gone. Driving  home from Florida today past a sign that says “Jesus Saves”, past a long series of sad half-mast flags, and all I can think is why you, Charlie? Why so soon? You were the best of the best, the courageous one willing to tell the next generation the truth. Never yelling, never fighting, only answering. You didn’t chase down college kids, they came to you. And in God’s peace and love, you explained how they could be set free. Love the Lord. Read the Word. Get married. Have kids. Live free.

I DM’d you a week ago Friday. “Thank you for what you do,” I wrote. “You are brave and strong, kind and true. Carry on.” I didn’t know you. I didn’t expect an answer, but I had to say something. Because, Charlie, in the faith you were like family to me. And now you’re gone. I find comfort in the truth: You are more alive than ever. Jesus has you. You’ve heard the words we believers long to hear:  “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Days ago when the news came,  all I could think was, “No, please. Not Charlie Kirk.” I begged God for your life, I asked for a resurrection miracle, but the Bible verse that came to mind was John 12:24. “Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies it produces many seeds.”

And, Charlie, that is exactly what is happening now. It won’t stop. God will win. What you started in His strength will multiply a thousand times over. But still … I can’t stop crying. It hurts. There was no one like you. Someday in heaven I’ll find you and we can talk about it. For now, just know I cared. I was proud of you. I always will be.
