@mattzollerseitz One of my favorite movies to introduce to people. You have to be selective, because it’s not for all tastes, but so much fun to recommend to the right person.
@ashleynaftule After the elation of hearing we’re getting a new short story collection I went to order it and realized I have to wait until mid-September. Ugh. It’s a good thing I get off on pre-ordering books.
@BBW_BFF This is surprising. I feel like before it slipped into relative obscurity, it was generally well-regarded as superior popcorn entertainment. When did people start talking shit about it?
@teeboysmith4u@PmPerisu@BenHartWithNoE RotJ is such a mess. ILM and John Williams out there giving it their all and everyone else is just ticking off boxes and cashing paychecks. I sincerely love TPM and its myriad incomprehensible creative decisions, but RotJ just makes me sad.
@PmPerisu@BenHartWithNoE I’m not defending or criticizing The Acolyte, but to pretend the prequels demonstrated solid storytelling or character development is wild, pal. I’m beginning to wonder if you’ve seen anything other than a Star War.
@SiddhantAdlakha “They” may not discriminate, but the screeners—human and otherwise—they contract to weed out “less-qualified” applicants sure as hell do. Layers and layers of willful blindness and plausible deniability built into this shit.
@ashleynaftule It’s so fucking good. Just filmmaking at another level. I love how Miller repeats himself and doesn’t. Like a musician returning to the same song, but finding new combinations and resonances. Like they’re endlessly trying to pick a lock in the back of their head.
@Jiwan_Ko_Pani@Emm_Initiative This helps me understand what you see as the perceived motives behind "wokeness," but your original post referred to "woke ideals." What exactly are those ideals? Why do you feel recent ST is pushing these ideals beyond an acceptable threshold?
@bigmoutherapist@AndrewBeckUSA Counterpoint: He’s an entrepreneur who found a niche market, successfully built a brand that appeals to that market, and continues to generate product that draws new consumers to his product. Sounds like a first-rate Capitalist to me.
@Jiwan_Ko_Pani@Emm_Initiative Hmm… let’s make a list of things that don’t get one “canceled”:
- consensual sex with other adults
- maintaining appropriate boundaries with one’s colleagues
- taking “no” for an answer
It’s actually really easy to not get canceled (also, “cancel culture” is a myth.)
@Jiwan_Ko_Pani@Emm_Initiative And I find the fear that a vaguely defined “woke” boogey man will make me feel uncomfortable to be the attitude of very old men.
