Something personal for throwback Thursday.

This is my paternal grandfather sitting on his horse drawn thrasher. He was born in 1879 and passed away in 1962. He came into a world where horses did the work, kerosene lamps lit the evenings, and most people never traveled far from home.

During his lifetime, he watched America change in ways few of us can imagine. He saw automobiles replace wagons, electricity come to the countryside, airplanes take to the skies, and he watched his own sons leave home to serve their country during World War II.

When I look at this photo, I don’t just see an old machine and a team of horses. I see a man who worked from sunrise to sunset, who helped feed his family, and who lived through some of the greatest changes in American history.

Pictures like this remind me that our family stories aren’t just names on a family tree. They’re real people whose hard work, sacrifices, and quiet strength made our lives possible.
