Not our fault they say:
ยฃ2.6 trillion debt now vs ยฃ0.9 trillion in 2010
ยฃ0.4 trillion attributable to covid (if we write it all off)
ยฃ0.8 trillion in deficit spend.
Can anyone explain where the other ยฃ0.5 trillion has gone?
Whilst the population of this country are poorer in real terms and the facilities like education, NHS, police, transport etc is all on its knees?
We learned a lot about the policy of the government and the Bank of England when it came to inflation yesterday. Above all, we learned that they really want to frighten people into accepting lower standards of living. Economic warfare on the country has begun. A threadโฆ.

@youngfogie72@RachelReevesMP Would you share your policies with the enemy, two years ahead of an election, giving enough time for them to steal it? They've already stolen several policies fom labour. They won't share details until the race is on. Until then it's just chipping away at their image
We face a cost-of-living crisis created by events outside the UK triggering rates of inflation that many in this country have never witnessed before. In the face of these rising prices the Bank of England has increased the price of money itself. This is bizarre. A threadโฆโฆ
@j_bambrick@lewis_goodall And to think that the EU had the best interests of individuals (and their bank balances) in mind. We won't ever get this from the lot that took us out of the EU. That's sovereignty for you.
@HMRCcustomers It's for late payment. The message is from the 11th, but the payment was on the 12th.
So Business Account: current position is nothing to pay (paid on 12th)
Personal account: message from 11th, late payment penalty.
@HMRCcustomers OK thank you Marting. I have another question about a self-assessment. I got a message in my personal account saying that I have a penalty to pay, but then I checked my business account for the self-assessment and saw that my balance was up to date. Do I need to anything too?
@HMRCcustomers Thanks Martin (and Sofia). I have already don't want to be penalised, and I don't want to keep getting threatening letters - it's not fair and not good. How can I make sure that HMRC matches my payment with the new notice and stop sending me these letters?
@HMRCcustomers I received notice in August last year, and I paid on the 22 August last year.
This year I had to register an account for self-assessment and then I got this new letter saying I had to pay again, the same amount of tax.
