I cook, I write ... mostly cookbooks, but after 25 books (give or take) in 25 years I've decided that enough is enough, so I´ve begun writing novels instead ...
This is amazing. They are laying a new hot water pipe over lava that ran 4 days ago. 1-2 meters below them is molten rock, 6-800°C hot. Now hot water is streaming into the tanks and 25.000 people will again have water to heat their homes. #volcano#eruption#Iceland
Here you can see how close the lava flow is to the Blue Lagoon and the geothermal plant. It severed the hot water pipes so now 25,000 people are without water to heat their homes. There is a plan to construct a new pipe through the 2-day old fiercely hot lava. #volcano#eruption
@SakuraDawning@Tjinne Yes, there is another road. And this months eruption seems to be almost over. There will be others, who knows what damage they will do. Or maybe we will just have a nice tourist eruption, like the first two in this phase.
@Tjinne If the eruption only lasts a few days, it will probably be ok. The orange lines show earthern walls built in the past months to protect the lagoon (Bláa lónið) and the Svartsengi power station. The red and yellow line show geothermal and electric power lines - now severed.
This is where the lava stopped. The house next door burned completely to the ground. Here, not even the hedge caught fire. But will anyone ever live here again? #volcano#eruption#Grindavík#Grindavík
My debut novel Valskan (about the life and adventures of my great-great-great-great-great grandmother) was the 11th best selling novel in Iceland in 2023.
My novel Valskan is in tenth place on the fiction bestseller list in the week leading up to Christmas. (And in fifth place if crime novels are excluded.) Not bad. And it is the only debut novel on the fiction list. Not at all bad for a writer in her late sixties.
Tonight I was awarded a medal by the Icelandic Chef's Assonciation for my contribution to Icelandic cooking and preserving traditions. I'm humbled and happy.
