중국 고대에는 달기를 직접 찬미한 시가 없다. 사서에서 반면에 놓인 인물이기 때문이다. 그래서 오히려 대중문화에서는 줄곧 기억되어 왔다. 달기와 구미호의 관계는 이렇다.🦊

1. 주나라가 상나라를 토벌할 때 죄목을 잔뜩 늘어놓았는데, 그중에는 여자가 정치에 개입하도록 내버려 두었다는 항목이 있다. 후대 사가와 문인들은 이 말만으로는 매섭지 않다고 여겨, 달기, 곧 주왕의 왕비를 주범으로 지목하고 악하고 음란하다고 썼다. 다만 사실이라고 보장할 수는 없다.🤔

2. 여우는 처음부터 번식력이 높고 울음소리가 갓난아이 같아서 다산의 상징으로 여겨졌다. 허구의 구미호는 더욱이 생명력이 극히 강한 상서였다. 훗날 누군가 여우가 성적 매력을 지닌 요괴가 되어 사람을 홀린다고 쓰기 시작했고, 마지막에 그 설정이 달기에게 붙었다.🫠
