@NanBot3 @GibbyReznor @bonstewart I think the biggest part of what you just said was the "right when I need them". The reason these algorithms work is the convenience factor! We see these ads and go "huh, thats a good idea, I do need that!"

@LucasLavoie10 This is so true!
I bought a weighted blanket online for a christmas present, now every ad I see on Facebook is for weighted blankets... I don't need 17 of them!
@MrAlzner @bonstewart You hear so many horror stories about people's lives being ruined by false accusations and stuff. I completely agree, that is such a good point about police officers needing to understand the impact of their actions!

@bonstewart (2) that Facebook used their data, and that it was in the terms and service. We too quickly click accept and it shows when people get upset about what companies like Facebook can do with our info

@bonstewart Some leaders in today's society are too stuck in the old ways. I feel like a good example was when Facebook was being investigated (about their algorithm and how it gathered data) and they couldn't wrap their head around the fact that they had ACCEPTED the way (1)

@bonstewart I think emphasizing to the students that Google isn't always right is a good place to start! As crazy as it sounds, Google is not always right, and there are places (like scholarly articles) that we can find accurate answers to our questions!
@batchelor_mr @MarkHer12166017 @bonstewart That is a line that I feel like a lot of companies struggle with today. Money drives too many people to do unethical things, it divides society on many topics, good point!!
@MrAlzner @bonstewart That is so true... we are so quick to think of google as some separate entity. There are people controlling these algorithms and people buying what they want us to see!
@bonstewart (2)... results for each search are companies buying the spots. We are too quick to rely on technology and to trust that it is providing us with accurate, unbiased information

@bonstewart A2: We spoke about the people who think they aren't gullible are the most gullible. I feel like society is too quick to trust the Google search engine when it comes to the "right answer". We trust the search engine to be an unbiased answer when often the top (1)

@bonstewart A1: I was debating with my parents about what we wanted to stop and grab for dinner on the way to run errands. My twitter feed on my phone for a few days had a bunch of ads for different food places (ie. KFC)
My phone was in the background like...
