How this benefits American citizens? Ok here goes:

You have to zoom out to the economic system we’ve been stuck in for 20+ years though..

Briefly:

Since the early 2000s and especially post GFC we let a model solidify where China produces at insane scale and the U.S. consumes. Corporations benefited from cheap labor and higher margins. China runs massive trade surpluses. Those surplus dollars get recycled into U.S. Treasuries, which helps suppress interest rates and inflate asset prices. Great for Wall Street and capital holders while hollowing out the middle class.

China’s entire model is based on exporting at scale, but they don't produce enough energy on their own. Which is why China is aligned with Iran, since they provide them that energy.

So "flipping" Iran and aligning it with the US is about limiting China’s long-term leverage, since it diminishes China’s energy security and geopolitical position. And weakening China’s external leverage strengthens the U.S. position in trade negotiations, supply chain realignment, and reshoring efforts.

The whole point is to break the producer-China / consumer-America model, that hollowed out the middle class and created inequality, which one could argue is ultimately at the root of almost ALL of America's current political and cultural problems.

So the benefit to American citizens is about regaining leverage in a long economic rivalry, rebalancing trade, rebuilding domestic industry, and shifting the system that fueled inequality and deindustrialization.
