Just drove on Odisha’s NH-16 at 11 PM.
Dhabas everywhere full of trucks, cars, and people eating hot meals like it’s daytime! Lights on, food cooking, non stop hustle.
These roadside dhabas are real money makers.
Tech guys often dream I will quit my job and open a dhaba on the highway. Easy life with good food.
Reality? Not so simple.
You handle 20+ workers, power cuts, late-lnnight drunk customers, rising veggie prices, and sudden problems.
Your laptop plans won’t help when 50 people are waiting and gas is delayed.
Still, they thrive because
Perfect location: NH 16 has endless traffic 24/7
High volume: Cheap meals (₹150-300) but hundreds of customers daily
Smart operations: Simple menu, fast service, cash daily
Focus on basics: Quick food, clean enough toilets, safe parking
Big lesson: You don’t need fancy ideas. Pick a busy spot, execute well, and stay consistent.
Highway dhabas prove it solid execution beats big dreams.
Respect to all the owners grinding daily.
Next time you stop for chai at midnight, know it’s a serious business, not just a stall.

@advaita_batika NPS teachers are still on strike, for increasing their Grade pay, removing 6 year contractual system and for promotion due from last 10/12 years. Hoped the present CM, who was a teacher himself, would realise the problem and sort it out but the files are not moving an inch.
