Two Uber conversations this morning told me more about the economy than most reports.

First driver tells me there are now around 93,000 Uber drivers in Ontario.

Second driver tells me he drives Uber part-time.

His other job?

Real estate agent.

He tells me it’s a “great time to buy,” then tells me about a client who refused to sell a semi worth around $1.05M because he got greedy.

It eventually sold for around $700K.

Meanwhile, Statistics Canada reported this morning that Canada lost 42,000 jobs in August, including 18,000 in Ontario.

Real estate agents driving Uber for extra income. Tens of thousands of people competing for gig work. Homeowners watching hundreds of thousands in equity disappear.

Sometimes you don’t need an economic forecast.
