This is particularly regarding the pressure of being put in a space where I’m expected to perform perfection as a representative of all my intersectional communities. We are not a monolith. I breathe and embrace my individuality: My humanness. #HipHopEd#MinorityMentalHealthMonth
I graduated in May. First Gen valedictorian, Trans/Queer POC living through homelessness.. I feel I defied the odds. I’ve been a mental health advocate & activist for years, but sometimes I have to remind myself: I don’t need to submit to the pressure of perfection #hiphoped
I set boundaries to ensure I keep time to myself, pour into myself, spend time with myself. Having & setting boundaries was one of the best things I could’ve prioritized within my path to mental health healing. #HipHopEd
I wish people spoke about mental health in our communities more. I wish we took care of each other more. I wish we would allow ourselves to be taken cared of more. #HipHopEd
Teachers who appreciate teachers are appreciated. Seeing how I get educated by my current & past students, this week is for them too. @Narelys_@Diamond43943748 @kellyymariee_12 #HipHopEd
I missed #HipHopEd this week, but I wanted to give a huge shoutout to @mrmotroy! For being one of the most loving, powerful, and impactful teachers I’ve ever had. Even though I graduated 5 years ago, we constantly learn from each other! #TeacherAppreciationWeek
STOP USING THE TRAUMA OF ASIAN PEOPLE TO PROMOTE RACIST ANTI-BLACKNESS RHETORIC. Some people are only trying to be pro “#StopAsianHate” so that they can amplify anti-Blackness. We’re not here for that.
To our AAPI Community, I understand we are grieving, we are in pain. I know we want solutions but please understand that more policing is not the answer. More policing will disproportionately harm our Black & Brown communities. Let us amplify the power of Mutual Aid instead.
National Eating Disorders Awareness(#NEDA) week is next week: Feb 22-28. Here's a friendly reminder: Posting "before and after" photos can be very harmful & triggering to the ED community as it can continue to reinforce the idea that eating disorders "look" a certain type of way.
@mrmotroy Imma have to shoutout Mr. Mo for always giving me the option to design my own assignments Aligning w/ the lesson. 6 years later, it’s the reason I still draw what words can’t always describe. This has led to art becoming a staple for my mental stability. Current peice #HipHopEd
I'mma really forever remember this moment in history. How does one describe feeling so seen and heard in so many ways? I am so thankful Amanda Gorman gave voice to herself and so many of us. #HipHopEd
@TheRealHipHopEd It’s some of our educators believing they have “heard it all” or “arrived” as ally educators when they’ve listened to one TED talk, or read one book, or attended one protest, or have one sticker... when really they’ve only begun to learn our lifelong lived experiences. #HipHopEd
As a youth spoken word poet, seeing @TheAmandaGorman light up America with the power of words made me feel so connected & empowered myself. To see another young person's words be so valued made my heart glow. Our words matter... and sometimes we need a reminder. #HipHopEd
@mrmotroy To lead to possibilities of people being deemed “terrorists” can truly put our BIPOC siblings in danger. I want to mention that these are messages I’m passing on from local and elder Black and Brown activists. #HipHopEd
@mrmotroy We know that in the history of any BIPOC person taking action even in civil disobedience for justice, has been deemed criminals. Our Black and Brown community always pays the higher price #HipHopEd
