The Trump Admin has frozen USCIS processing for Iranian nationals, putting 12,000+ students at risk of losing legal status. Forcing them back to Iran now puts their lives at risk from regime repression and an active war.
@SenMarkey and I are demanding immediate action.
In the midst of a catastrophic war and escalating repression in Iran, the Trump Administration is halting immigration processing and legal status pathways for Iranian nationals, including students and professionals already in the United States.
Because visa processing and immigration benefit applications are now frozen, many Iranians studying and working here could lose their legal status and be forced to return to a country where they may face serious danger.
I’m working on a series of actions to demand immediate protections for Iranians in the U.S., including safeguards for students and others whose lives would be at risk in Iran.
Mr. @SecMullinDHS, as you step into your new position I ask you to provide particular consideration to the status of Iranian students and professionals in the United States who may be at risk of immigration complications due to Presidential Proclamations 10949 and 10998. Many of these individuals fled the Islamic Republic’s because they believe in freedom, democracy, and the values this country stands for. They are also contributing to the United States every day.
They arrived in this country legally, followed the rules, respect this country and its system of law and order and are among the most dedicated and accomplished contributors to American society. I ask that you and your department consider these factors, plus the personal and political risk many of these young people would face if sent back to the criminal regime in Iran.
America’s concerns for its national security and the threat posed by the Islamic regime to the homeland are entirely justified. To that end, my office stands ready to provide you and your colleagues with regime operatives, propaganda agents, and influence networks for investigation and removal from the United States.
Thank you for your consideration.
Congratulations, @SenMullin, on becoming DHS Secretary.
Iranian students and researchers in the U.S. now need your attention. We came here legally to study and build our future.
The hold on USCIS Benefit Applications has left Iranians in uncertainty. Careers are paused, and many cannot safely return to #Iran amid the war.
Please review and lift the hold. Protect talent that strengthens America.

Hey @David_J_Bier, this @USCIS ban is endangering the health of this Iranian student! I believe in freedom of speech so I should say this legal immigration benefits ban on fully vetted Iranian STEM students is anti-meritocratic and in this case is cruel!

@Dillon_Valdez@BarackObama@redistrictact Imagine believing that non-citizens are registering to vote under their own names and risking jail in order to cast a vote that has no chance of affecting the outcome of an election :)
146M Americans do not have a passport.
40M eligible voters do not have access to their birth certificate.
69M women do not have a birth certificate that matches their married name.
The SAVE Act denies the right to vote for millions of Americans by requiring specific forms of ID that millions of U.S. citizens do not have, and requiring them to effectively pay a poll tax, which is illegal, in order to get those documents to vote.
The SAVE Act is voter suppression.
Republicans know that Trump has made them deeply unpopular, so they know they need to cheat to win.
You cannot argue with MAGA. They demand evidence, then call your sources biased. You provide primary sources, they claim they're doctored. You show them video, they say it's out of context. You give them context, they say you're cherry-picking. This isn't debate. This is a systematic refusal to allow reality to intrude on mythology. You're not arguing facts. You're arguing whether facts exist.
Calling it “stopped” is meaningless. Thousands were already killed and the regime retook the streets under martial law. There’s no one to kill now, when protests return, so will the killings.
Executions too; they just wait until no one’s watching.
To put the scale in perspective:
Estimates are 10–15k civilians killed in the Russia–Ukraine war over 3 years.
The IRGC killed a similar number in its own country in just THREE DAYS!
An unprecedented massacre in response to a peaceful protest in modern history.
Initially I was surprised at people's ability to ignore evidence leading to conclusions they don't like, even with multiple videos of the scene. But then I remembered that 34% of Americans don't believe in evolution.
There's been a LOT about why RFK Jr is a terrible pick, but I want to focus on something that is very concerning to me, but no one seems to be mentioning.
He appeals to a widespread, common-sense idea that the problem with our food is that it has "lots of artificial ingredients". Get the artificial ingredients out — no chemical additives! no food dyes! no high fructose corn syrup! — and our health problems magically resolve.
This is 100% incorrect, and fundamentally misunderstands the problems with our food system.
