Tuesday evening, we had the honor of celebrating the graduation of our Citizens’ Academy. Sheriff @DaronHall7 shared his sincere appreciation for the community members who took the time to learn more about our work, our approach, and our purpose.

Our Citizens’ Academy participants have been busy the last two weeks. They received a behind-the-scenes of our Sheriff Support Center, Special Operations Response Team, Transportation, Communications, Recruitment & Training. Our academy’s culmination will be this coming Tuesday with graduation.

Yesterday, Chief of Staff Karla West announced our July Employee of the Month, Tawanna Darby, and Officer of the Month, Anibal Hernandez Sanchez. Congratulations to our July Officer of the Month, Deputy Anibal Hernandez Sanchez! Recently a Lebanon, Tennessee citizen shared a story that beautifully reflects Deputy Sanchez’s dedication to helping others. While stopped at a traffic light, Deputy Sanchez in his personal vehicle, noticed that a woman had a flat tire. He alerted her and followed her to a nearby gas station but they did not have an air pump.

Without hesitation, Deputy Sanchez used his personal electric pump to add air to the tire. He then went a step further, locating the source of the leak and repairing it with a tire repair kit he had with him.

Deputy Sanchez was off duty and had no obligation to stop and help, but he saw someone who needed assistance and chose to make a difference. His willingness to serve, even when he was off the clock, is a true reflection of the kindness, compassion, and dedication we value in our deputies.

She works hard every day, is always willing to pitch in and help others, and makes even the most stressful days more enjoyable with her contagious spirit and positive attitude. We recently hosted @TNTDOC1 for monthly Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). Our partnership for CIT training helps prepare staff and officers to recognize the signs and symptoms of a mental health crisis while providing practical strategies for effective de-escalation. We’re proud to continue investing in training that promotes safer, more compassionate responses. #MentalHealthMatters

Yesterday, I was sworn-in for a seventh term by Judge Steve Dozier. I want to thank my family for their support, @NashSheriff staff for trusting me to lead them for the past 24 years, and voters of Nashville for having the confidence I continue to be the right person for this job. As part of Graduation Week for Cadet Class 307-26, Deputy Chief of Administration, Evin Baylis hosted a diverse panel discussion designed to prepare cadets for their careers in law enforcement. The conversation covered important topics including managing stress, navigating the promotion process, pursuing career goals, and addressing the challenges of our profession.

🍎First Period: Meet the Sheriff!
Our newest Citizens’ Academy class was officially back in session last Tuesday night! Sheriff @daronhall7 welcomed the class before our chiefs shared more about their roles. Then it was time for a little field trip around headquarters, followed by an exercise on our Pretrial Program.
Looks like this class is already making the grade! ✏️

Congratulations to our Employee of the Month for June, Brandi Moore!

After a 72-year-old man was booked into the Downtown Detention Center on a failure-to-appear charge, Ms. Moore recognized there may have been a misunderstanding about his previous court appearance. Rather than leaving it for someone else, she took the initiative before the end of her shift to contact the Public Defender's Office and ask if his hearing could be moved to the following morning.

The man appeared in court the next day, and his case was dismissed.
Ms. Moore chose compassion, initiative, and service. Her willingness to go the extra mile is a powerful reminder that one thoughtful act can make a life-changing difference.

Congratulations to our Officer of the Month for June, Cpl. Keith Brown!

While traveling east on Bell Road, Cpl. Brown witnessed a colliding with a pickup truck. Without hesitation, he activated his emergency lights to protect the crash scene, notified dispatch, and coordinated with 911. He forced open the door of the pickup truck to reach the trapped driver, reassuring her to remain still until help arrived.

Cpl. Brown then turned his attention to the occupants of the van, who were both unresponsive. Recognizing the severity of the situation, he requested multiple ambulances, assisted firefighters by providing Narcan when additional doses were needed, and climbed into the van to help dislodge the man so he could be transported for medical treatment.

His calm demeanor, decisive actions, and commitment to serving others made a critical difference during a life-threatening emergency. We commend Cpl. Brown for his heroism, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to protecting our community.
