Several volunteers came in to assist air force personnel to clear the Bell 212 helicopter that crashed during relief & rescue operations in Wennapuwa in which its pilot Wing commander Nirmal Siyambalapitiya passed away in the line of duty.
This is the strength of Sri Lankans!
During my tenure as Chairman of Island Aviation Ltd, we conducted several studies on wide-body operations. While the idea is undoubtedly exciting, I have always believed that it is far too risky for IAS to pursue this path independently.
Here’s why:
•The aviation industry is incredibly competitive, with razor-thin profit margins.
•Neither the Maldivian government nor IAS has the financial capacity to absorb the kind of losses this venture could bring.
•Charter operations - which rely on one or a few parties, have never worked out well for IAS in the past. History shows they tend to end in failure or significant losses.
I’m not saying that IAS can’t operate wide-body aircraft operation successfully. But the risks are so high that it wouldn’t be a responsible move without the right partner. If we’re serious about starting an international airline with wide-body planes, I strongly believe the best path forward is to find a reputable partner and create a joint venture with IAS.
The suspension of @Hkurusee is a troubling development that strikes at the core of free expression and democratic discourse in the Maldives.
This account has been a key advocate for justice and transparency, consistently challenging abuses of power and shedding light on critical issues in this small island nation.
Silencing such voices not only stifles public awareness but also undermines the values of accountability and open dialogue.
We call on @Support to urgently review this decision and reinstate the account, preserving its essential role in promoting truth and justice.

The government’s attempts to prevent @PNFront members from attending the inaugural meeting of their newly formed political party is a cause for serious concern.
The right to form political parties, to peaceful assembly and to have dissenting views from those in power are guaranteed to all of us by the constitution. They are not privileges granted to us at the pleasure of any one individual in power.
These rights should be defended and protected as they remain important cornerstones of a thriving open society.
I called @PoliceMv, Galolhu Police today, because a motorcycle was parked inside the boundary of the house I live, Police said there was nothing they can do. Apparently, you can park anywhere you want on the streets and also evidently inside someone else's home or premises and it is not a concern for the police. Encouraging people to resolve trespass by themselves or to take law onto their own hands is the start of lawlessness.
I condemn the use of hateful language against #India by Maldivian government officials on social media. India has always been a good friend to Maldives and we must not allow such callous remarks to negatively impact the age old friendship between our two countries.

True story.
Around 2009, when this Shaheeb was working at Sun, he pushed a female journalist into a sofa, forcefully unbuttoned her clothes & tried to rape her. She survived his rape attempt cause someone came there at that time.
He did similar things at Haveeru also.
#ShaheebOut
Journalist Ms. Nahudha asking Mr. Shaheeb about his rape attempt.
Journalists must ask this question everytime he holds a press conference.
And please stop calling him “sir”. It’s disgusting.
Please watch these 48 seconds. Journalist @tedmaldives is GREAT.
He has rightly called the alleged rapist Mr. Shaheeb “Hudhu muhuthaaru”.
Yes, it doesn’t make sense to sit down if you have follow up questions! You have to stay at the mike stand.
