Whatever you think of what happened during or next, the Red Terror (1917-1922) did work at its goal of ensuring the immediate survival of the nascent Soviet state. I'm not saying red terror is all that is needed, tbc.

If the US ever fell, in power, we would need to be ruthless against those who would do anything to restore it, otherwise they will butcher us instead.
