Had a great day at the @SustainableUoM #biodiversity research event yesterday, enjoying speaker discussions and presenting a poster on my work. Some early findings from the first phase of fieldwork before heading back to Kenya in the next few weeks!
Enjoyed presenting some ideas and early findings today at the SEED PGR Conference on doing #bioculturalconservation . Exciting to start having research to share! @GlobalDevInst@PGRSEED
As of today, for the next three weeks, I am ‘locked out’ by my employer, on zero pay, for participating in @UCU’s Marking and Assessment Boycott.
A short thread on why I am participating. 1/6

No sooner do we release this film than the police send intimidatory letters to protest groups, warning that they can now use the monstrous new powers Sunak has rushed into law. Freedom and democracy are being trashed in front of our eyes.
🏙 COMMUNITIES IN ACTION 🧑🏫
Homelessness, poverty, oppression. All of these are taking place right here in our city, right now. Hear from advocates for migrant women, the homeless and low income families and what our communities can do to change things #oursociety#pint23
BREAKING ‼️‼️: Hiring these private bailiffs cost UoM £38,449.
That’s the price tag UoM deemed necessary to silence and scare peacefully protesting students.
A shocking waste of funds, why not just start negotiations? @OfficialUoM

We've had multiple reports of payments from March being delayed for casual staff and now of emergency payments being delayed as well.
How many times are we going to have to go through this @OfficialUoM? Delayed pay can cause serious issues for precarious staff.
NEW: Earlier today the University of Manchester sent bailiffs to forcibly remove students from the Simon Building after smashing down a door, ending their 6-week occupation of the building.
Dear @OfficialUoM,
Is it true?
Our students have struggled with stress and #costofliving. This has pushed some to take action they felt necessary.
I trust that our top ranking on Social Responsibility oblige our university to be understanding, care for students & not retaliate.
‼️ BREAKING: The University of Manchester has commenced disciplinary action against student activists over the occupations of the John Owens and Simon buildings.
Yesterday, 11 students received emails from the University informing them that they were under investigation [1/6]
Rishi Sunak is planning new anti-worker laws that would see nurses, teachers, firefighters & other key workers sacked if they strike to defend their rights.
This is a disgraceful attack on the whole working class.
It must be fought in Parliament, in workplaces & in the streets.
