I rebranded “office hours” to “student hours” for this reason.
Being #firstgen, I never went to a prof’s office hours. I didn’t really understand what they were. So, I make sure to tell my students that it’s time I set aside for them each week.
@MagisterBracey I find it shocking even when people don’t identify as allies. I hope that all the conversations that are taking place right now lead us to some progress.
I’d like to apologize for identifying individuals who presented letters to me at City Hall today. This was during one of my Facebook updates as I was answering routine questions. Never did I intend to harm anyone or cause distress. The update is removed and again, I apologize.
@MagisterBracey White or not white, I would definitely think that person has been socialized to promote discrimination and oppression without yet coming to the ability to see such as more than mere “ghosts” of a previous time. (Yes, racist.)
Looking for personal perspectives and opinions! What does #blackculture mean to you? How would you describe it? What #blackrolemodels did you have growing up (famous and not)?
@msnramani As a child, the Dear America books were very helpful to show me history and other perspectives. Of course, there was poetry and other books since, but the DA books helped to establish a foundation of empathy and desire to stand up for what it is right.
Language shapes our understanding or our understanding shapes our language? @MerriamWebster to expand definition of “racism”. #langchat https://t.co/WCzdg6UeQJ
@JesusRedondo_SC @pamelaaugust I totally cave ALL THE TIME! But I did a good job after the encouragement on here and didn’t respond today. It can all wait until Monday. :)
With online classes, my high schoolers hand in projects at all hours of the night and all weekend. I find it hard to ignore and wait until Monday to grade. How do you balance online teaching? #TeachingOnline#onlineclasses#Summerisalmosthere
@njcampbell1 @Margaret_Hahn I did do that over spring break and it was very helpful. Right now is just this weird transition to summer time. Technically my students we done Thursday, but teachers have a week to wrap up grades. My hours feel less defined.
