as we look at the terrifying scenes out of nyc, know that ontario premier doug ford cut 70%—or $142.2 milllion—from the emergency firefighting fund in 2019 even as Indigenous communities, experts, and residents warned of escalating severe weather due to climate change
There's a dire shortage of nurses causing a collapse of the healthcare system. Nursing school should be free.
Doug Ford: makes tuition free for new police recruits.
Last I heard, we have a shortage of nurses, not police officers. Priorities, huh? #onpoli
It’s the little things 🚌
Every morning at exactly 10:30 am, the @hsr drives by, honks, stops to wave & say hello to our toddlers. We look for them and they look for us.
Thanks for making us feel like the most popular kids on the route and for connecting us to our #community.
Ontario has enough land for 2 million new homes without touching Greenbelt. This is the 2nd report to confirm this. The first report to confirm this was the Premier's own Taskforce on Housing. So now we have it from all sides of the political spectrum.

How to privatize public healthcare:
Step 1: Underfund the public system.
Step 2: Make people frustrated with the public system.
Step 3: Introduce private for-profit options so people have no other choice.
This is what’s happening right now in Ontario.
It must be stopped.
Defunding the police is not “radical” whatsoever and what truly is radical is our last 30-40 years of public policy where we have been defunding every aspect of social security (+education, healthcare, etc) while constantly increasing police budgets on all levels. Police have…
No other publicly funded municipal service is able to demand annual budget increases of this size with an already ballooned budget and a reserve that doesn't get returned. $12 million could fund: housing, food, mental health support, transportation & more. https://t.co/vdKe3CgffX
I hate how policymakers can always find money to increase the police budget, but increasing funding for housing, mental health, and community services is "too expensive" or "unrealistic". All the while, we have unhoused neighbours living in tents and long lines for food banks.
As a physician, the current policy of opening warming centres when it is -15 C is not aligned with the evidence. The majority of cold related injuries that come to our emergency departments are when it is warmer than -15 C. We should not need “extreme weather” to show humanity.
Isn't protecting our children a good reason to wear masks😷again? When #COVID19 first hit, we wore masks to protect our grandparents. Kids deserve the same consideration, by @AllisonHanes https://t.co/8nITRjOhEl via @mtlgazette
Hey @MaintenancePod! Is this your first mention in an academic journal? I wrote this commentary for the Journal of the Canadian Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry @CACAP_ACPEA https://t.co/VoFL9ZbVVp
A few questions for Hockey Canada following today's resignations.
1. Who is appointing the "interim management committee?" Was this done by outgoing staff/board?
2. Who is on the "independent" Nominating Committee?
3. Did Smith or board begin this process prior to leaving?
An anti-Black and white supremacist sticker was used to vandalize a Black candidate's campaign ad in Hamilton, Ontario. This is the same city where a confederate flag was being flown 5 months ago. Same city where the police tasered down a Black man having an epileptic seizure.
Canadian NHL stars are arguably the greatest beneficiaries of Hockey Canada's toxic culture — they're venerated and paid millions of dollars (and apparently if they commit sexual assault, it gets covered up and paid off.)
NHLers' silence on the issue is morally repugnant.
I have to say this might be the single best line of questioning i've ever seen performed by an interviewer talking to a politician about gender and kids.
Just a reminder that the alleged gang rape that is currently rocking Hockey Canada happened in 2018. And do you know what it was like in 2018 to mildly criticize hockey in this country?
CUPE 🔥
