And here I’ve been paying taxes and monthly watering charges for 43 years under the impression that the City would be maintaining core infrastructure when it was actually preoccupied with other things.
@RobWardCGY So appreciate this simple set of questions. Everything the city does should be evaluated for value to the citizens. My family has had to shift from WANTS to NEEDS, so should our public sector. @JeromyYYC where is your leadership???
Three years ago today, the world witnessed the deadliest attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust. Families were torn apart, children kidnapped, women assaulted, and the elderly slaughtered: some 809 civilians were killed, while 252 would endure captivity as hostages.
In January, the last body of the hostages killed was finally returned following the return of the last living hostage last year. The return offered some closure to the conflict as the last body was laid to rest, but we know the scourge of antisemitism is not over.
The hatred that fueled October 7th did not remain on foreign shores. Right here in Canada, far too many synagogues, Jewish businesses and institutions have been the targets of harassment and hate.
This is not, and cannot become, normal. Conservatives will always fight against antisemitism and all forms of hatred: protecting our schools, communities and places of worship so that Canadians of all faiths can live in peace and security.
Today, alongside our Jewish friends and neighbours, we remember those who lost their lives that day. May their memory be a blessing.
So @cityofcalgary I have a question about the water meter replacement program. I have tried to call and sat on hold for more than 20 minutes 3 times with your contractor. This is not an acceptable service standard when I am being mandated to do this change over. FYI @RobWardCGY
@JeromyYYC No! your administration needs a wake up call! Asking Calgarians to fund their "wants"... that is purely a slap in the face of people who are barely holding it together. Administration needs to be told no, and no again. What are they spoiled children???
@JeromyYYC and @RobWardCGY I cannot believe that our administrative teams at #ycc do not understand that this is unacceptable. Taxes are out of control. My discretional spending for my family has been cut and cut that is what we should expect from our governments.
SCOOP: Preliminary and confidential budget documents obtained by Global News show a 20.2% property tax increase would be required next year to fund all the budget requests in front of Calgary city council.
Work is underway to prioritize those requests.

@RobWardCGY Please! As well, I think there needs to be a hard look at staffing levels. I appreciate there is turn over but there needs to be an evaluation of where jobs are truly needing going forward.
4 people are in there with hopes, dreams, risk and the unknown.
It makes me breathless, knowing how they're feeling and what they're facing.
So exciting to see what we're capable of when we work together in common purpose, deciding to push back the edges of our collective ignorance.
Have a great voyage, crew of @NASAArtemis!
@RobWardCGY Thank you for representing the desires of the people who elected you. It is nice after being dictated to about what "is good for my community" for years. I am a part of my community and deserve to have a say.
@RobWardCGY In Chinook Park, we are battling the approval of development of 18 units on a single lot currently occupied by a mid-block bungalow. We are constantly being told this is about affordability. Finally, the quiet part is said out loud... it is all about tax revenue.
I thought Blanket Rezoning was about making Homes more Affordable?
This “Advocate” admits it’s really about Collecting more Property Taxes.
Personally, I don’t think the City should be able to Fundamentally change entire Established Communities just to boost their bottom line.
The real danger in Canada-China trade isn’t scale. It’s over-dependence.
China can buy Canadian goods, but it’s risky to let a sector or company become so dependent on the Chinese market that Beijing can use that dependence to apply political pressure. That isn’t a hypothetical. The Chinese Communist Party has a history of weaponising trade and economic ties to achieve its political objectives.
Appreciate @ConceptualJames shining a light here. He’s right. What happened in Lethbridge is the tip of an iceberg.
I’m going to vent a bit. Please, if you care about kids and are concerned about Canada and the horrific direction it is headed, please re-post this, and demand better from our federal government. I’ve been sleepless, and searching for the right word to describe the anger and frustration I feel knowing that this injustice has happened in my home province, and is happening across this country.
I am truly grieved.
My daughter is 15.
These girls assaulted by Atoa are somebody’s daughter too, and a judge released him.
Releasing a person who forcibly confines, sexually assaults, trafficked and drugs children is completely indefensible, and it’s nowhere near the standards and values which built this country. Honestly, I have a difficult time recognizing Canada anymore.
We used to be known for standing up for those who couldn’t. Now we release child traffickers, child rapists, child sexual abuse material producers and users back into the community.
It is madness, and complete and total moral and societal decay.
50 year old Atoa was forcibly confining and offending against 3 children. The 14-year-old was found inside in medical distress, transported to the hospital, and reported being forcibly confined for three days, during which she was repeatedly sexually assaulted by Atoa and other men while being forced to consume drugs.
Atoa was RELEASED ON BAIL after being charged with:
-Human trafficking (trafficking of a person under 18)
-Sexual assault of a child under 16
-Sexual interference
-Obtaining sexual services of a child for consideration
-Indecent exposure to a child under 16
-Sexual exploitation or counsel of a child
-Three counts of unlawful confinement
He has such little regard for authority and the law that Atoa was re-arrested for breaking his conditions approximately 1/2 HOUR after his release.
There are many decent good-willed Canadians who support @NIMCAlly and @albertacentre_ , as well as our excellent Law Enforcement partners including @lethpolice, but bringing justice to victims and holding perpetrators accountable requires MAJOR justice system reform.
It also requires Canadians to stand up and demand better for our country, and for our children. Please visit https://t.co/R66oHj0S20 and use our free resources to educate yourself on the indicators of human trafficking and to learn what to do when you see it.
Awareness AND action is required. There is hope and a better way. But it will require all of us working together.
One way to show your outrage and demand change is to sign the #NotInMyCity petition to reverse Canada’s Supreme Court decision which erodes and weakens Canada’s laws protecting kids.
Sign the petition, send letters, share widely: https://t.co/BlpNABT0PQ One click makes a difference. Sign, Send & Share. Let’s make Canada safer for kids. #NotInMyCity #JailNotBail #NotwithstandingClause #EndChildTrafficking
@calgaryherald Such a strong message about the slippery slope we seem to be on. We need hard NOs when it comes to this type of abuse and we need to stop trivializing it. Thank you @paulbrandt and @shuvmajumdar
@shuvmajumdar@JnfCanada I am not Jewish myself but have many close friends who are. I am proud to have you as my representative in Ottawa at a time like this.
There should be just one takeaway from the fall in gas prices: the Liberals had the power ALL along to make life more affordable for you and your family. They did absolutely nothing until they needed your vote.
What happens again when they no longer need it? I’ll give you one guess.
Mark, your government has spent a decade depicting Canada as “a post modern state with no core identity” whose history, and present, is characterized by genocide and institutional racism, a state of questionable legitimacy resting on “stolen land.”
Your government has engaged in a never ending parade of apologies, abasement and self-recrimination, together with an erasure or marginalization of many central aspects of our history, including our founding Prime Minister.
You lowered our national flag for six months. That’s for a country that did not lower it for one day when 110,000 Canadians were dying on the battlefields of Europe.
Do you seriously mean to suggest that none of this “drove the mood of the country down,” but that the decline in patriotic sentiment is primarily the fault of an opposition leader arguing that government policies have diminished Canada’s prosperity, and created profound problems in housing, crime, immigration, etc?
I respect your intelligence, and your service to Canada, both in uniform and in Parliament.
And I readily grant that reasonable people can disagree about the causes and effects of government policy.
But I’m sorry, IMHO members of your government don’t get to skate away so easily from the damage done to national pride and attachment from a decade of denigrating Canadian history and identity.
