in a mixture of luck and fate, i had the pleasure of meeting @tinahhong and @aryopatel on my literal first day as an investor at @a_starvc. i chased down Tinah for a late dessert at naya cafe in hayes and couldn’t stop thinking about audit and the sarbanes-oxley act that night

we invested within the week. tinah and aryo were charming and immensely well read on audit and finance. the A* team and i walked away from each meeting fawning over their wit, humor, and deep diligence on the problem space

my past life working at the big4, primarily with later stage companies, made it clear to me that many of the ai tools garnering favor in the valley weren’t built with the real world in mind. you have to combine frontier technology with a relationship built on mutual understanding and trust to earn the right to serve massive public companies.

many of my favorite companies feel massively non-obvious at the seed (mercor and aaru, to name a few). andera was very much the same. i don’t think investors fully understood how large the industry is, how manual the work continues to be, how hard of a technical problem there is to solve, and just how much companies are willing to pay to accelerate their businesses

unable to keep the team off my mind, i rented an apartment in SF a few months ago just to help out and absorb whatever i can. as we’ve spent more time together, it is so obvious Andera is a heat seeking missile for top talent across engineering, audit, and beyond. every time i show up to the office after a week or two away, the team has grown, the tech / product has gotten an order of magnitude better, and many new clients have been signed.

in a world of pontificating and posturing, tinah and aryo are the real deal. very very lucky to call myself an investor, advisor, fan, cheerleader, and friend. onwards.
