Competing against 67 schools across 11 countries, their debut entry "THE INHERITANCE: The Responsibility We Share" used cinematic storytelling to champion climate action, environmental stewardship, and generational responsibility.
During a historic visit by Pope Leo XIV on the 25th of September, 2026, at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, student artwork from Armitage Senior Secondary School were spotlighted in an 80-piece global peace mural created for the International Youth for Peace competition.
Organized jointly by UNESCO and France Télévisions, the initiative sought to empower young students to voice their vision of global harmony through creative mediums including art, music, film, and writing.
The initiative aims to integrate these global standards directly into Gambia’s national education policies, teacher training programs, and school curricula.

Updated from its original 1974 framework and adopted at the UNESCO General Conference in November 2023, the global framework addresses critical modern issues such as climate change, gender equality, human rights, and cultural diversity.

Call for Nominations: King Faisal Prize 2028
ICESCO is inviting universities, research institutions, academies, and scientific organizations across The Gambia to submit nominations for the prestigious King Faisal Prize 2028.
Interested institutions are urged to identify eligible candidates, compile their nomination dossiers for internal evaluation, and submit it to ICESCO through the Gambia National Commission for UNESCO (NATCOM) no later than 31 December 2026.
