They absolutely have, and will absolutely fail to rise to the moment, if recent history is any indication. Entrenched leadership care only for the maintenance of their own power, rather than the use of that power for its intended purpose: the benefit of us all.
There are folks running around on TV blaming progressivism for Dem underperformance.
I was curious, so I decided to open the hood on struggling campaigns of candidates who are blaming progressives for their problems.

@hannahschaef I didn’t know that I needed Whit to not be MAGA??? This is making me feel some very strange feelings, most around Focus’ lasting brainwashing effects well into my 30s...
@hannahschaef @SuzanneStabile Lost track of the number of times I get super overwhelmed when a v minor household thing goes wrong and people are like "Woah woah- what's up with that??" and I have to explain how accidentally washing a cast iron pan is connected to immigration policy
@abbeymoore Glad it was helpful! My personal experience is that it’s REALLY hard to express my inner life in a way that others can grok- always validating to hear resonant experiences 🤗
@hannahpaasch 3) My working solution to this is deploying a very conscious control over how much I speak / guide things, and creating very intentional spaces for listening. Sometimes this backfires when I subsume my voice *too much*, but it’s a learning process.
@hannahpaasch 2) Ironically my drive to fix/improve is 100% grounded in people- increasing their agency, enabling them to do/be things they couldn’t do before. But the application of that drive often comes off as disconnected
The further I get into my career, the more I find satisfaction in a well designed spreadsheet. This is unexpected, and was not an emotion covered in design school, and is confusing, and also fairly unsettling.
