A day off is not a standby shift
As Ireland takes over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, EuroCOP is highlighting the ongoing concerns raised by the Garda Representative Association and the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors.
Gardaí are facing pressure around rostered rest days, shift changes, annual leave and working time arrangements.
These protections matter.
They allow officers to recover from the demands of policing, spend time with their families and maintain the resilience needed to serve the public.
Operational challenges must be managed through proper processes, not informal pressure or implied obligation.
EuroCOP stands with @gardarep and @AGSI_Ireland in calling for fair treatment, lawful process and meaningful social dialogue.
Police officers protect society every day. Their own rights, welfare and family lives must be protected too.
