THREAD 🧵🧵🧵
This is one of YouTube’s greatest storytellers.
In 6 years he’s gained 460,000,000 views.
Between June 2022 & July 2023 he produced 15 consecutive viral (1M+) videos.
Zac Alsop is actually a GENIUS.
Latest vid breaks down @zacalsopp strategy: https://t.co/bjXJzbNJlC
@ryanjamesbolton No problem!
What is it that you’re building? What’s the video actually about it? I might be able to help you come up with a more interesting title :)
@ryanjamesbolton 2nd one :)
Simpler is always better, especially if you want people to understand the story behind the thumbnail at a quick glance.
It also shows a stronger visual of ‘building’ something.
Looks more unique too.
What’s the title btw?
I think it all comes down to the ‘why’.
If people are in it for the views & vitality, then they’ll likely never reach true satisfaction.
But if they do it to level up themselves or others then there’s deeper meaning & fulfilment.
It’s about how valuable you make yourself & the value you add to others.
The video was stuck at 12 views for 12 hours.
But I knew it had the potential to perform.
It was just packaged wrong.
Previous title:
“How to Hook Viewers Instantly with a Killer YouTube Intro”
Current title:
“The Psychology Behind a Killer YouTube Intro”
Why change it?
In recommended people saw:
“How to Hook Viewers Instantly with a Killer”…
A killer?
A killer what?
It’s not that intriguing.
And it’s a little confusing.
Killer can mean good or bad.
So I needed to give people a short enough title that told them what the video was about without giving too much away.
Now over 90% of the views have come from the recommended section on YouTube.
If your video isn’t performing well:
• Optimise it for recommended
• Shorten the title (less than 50 characters)
• Provide enough clarity
The algorithm doesn’t hate you.
Your packaging just needs to make sense to your audience for them to click on it.
@hakukonevelhot To capture 100+ million views with each video is a ridiculous achievement.
Just shows that what he did in the early days laid the foundation for his success.
One of MrBeast’s 1st viral videos was of him cutting a table in half with a plastic knife.
I wouldn’t do this.
But that’s the whole point.
People watch videos of:
• Things they’d never do
• Others doing the hard work
• New ways of using common tools
Just do something someone would never do by using a tool or system in a new way.
It took him a whole weekend & a bunch of friend to cut through it…

For people wanting to see this in action…
I made a video I thought was great.
It performed terribly.
Bad packaging.
Once I updated the title & thumbnail this happened (it’s still getting views):
You might have some banger videos.
But your packaging stops the views.
How to revive a great video:
• Update the thumbnail
• Change the title
• Make them clickable
You need to focus on making your audience so curious they NEED to click your video.
YES!!!
This is the best news I could wake up to.
I’ve got access to A/B thumbnail testing for YouTube & I can upload 3 thumbnail variations.
Excited to test this out today.
@bradsmith Definitely.
I’ve been using it every day for the past week.
Been analysing the tweaks big creators are making to their thumbnails & titles so I can start to think a little more like them.
YouTube is about to change forever.
MrBeast has launched Viewstats.
A tool that analyses:
• A/B tests
• 1 out of 10s
• Competitors
For any video on YouTube.
You can see when a channel has changed a title or thumbnail & how it impacts views.
See how it works in the video linked below.
