Greyhound should not be added to this list of bail outs! We do not need corporations to provide this service — those using busses know where they are going and the workers know how to get there.
Despite abundant evidence that nothing approaching the fantasy of free market capitalism exists, the myth persists to legitimate the private appropriation of socially created wealth.| https://t.co/D9mrxUEPWk
My son is arriving from Manitoba on tonight's train. Public transportation matters @viarail and should be kept public. Government support is critical; private companies will never be the solution #skpoli#cdnpoli@nationalizebus
In support of @cupw I wanted to share information about Switerland's PostBus service which delivers mail to rural areas as well as providing safe and affordable inter-community travel.

Get on this, Winnipeg. Indigenous women getting shit done while Pallister slashes transit funding & refuses to consider a publicly funded Greyhound replacement.

Privatizing the Lifelight air ambulance is unacceptable and should be fought tooth & nail, especially after the loss of Greyhound. Pallister doesn't give a damn about rural Indigenous communities. #mbpoli#canlab#cdnpoli#wpgpoli
Provincial & federal govts need to address the transportation gap left by Greyhound! Greyhound exit leaves gap for homeless, domestic violence shelters | CBC News https://t.co/hWPpqbGahs
@BeautifulRed7 That’s a very fair point.
Even with greyhound closures there were a ton of stories when the announcement was made and now on the last day. Several months in between with nearly no one questioning or looking into the impact.
It can be both things. Functional aspects of transportation are obviously important but so are feelings of loss — companies should not be able to do thoroughly limit our horizons, our ability to connect, and our options for exploration.
@Johnpomo6@TheTyee It's not about nostalgia. Vulnerable people have been living without public transit in rural and remote corners of Saskatchewan for over a year. Here are some of their stories. https://t.co/wue6CF4XCV

@UKMarjie @Magusiak Lack of affordable transportation is one of the reasons for the Highway of Tears.
Safe and reliable transportation is one step outlined in the #MMIWG interim report to help with this crisis.
Today Greyhound Canada will end service in Western Canada. I rode the bus one last time from Vancouver to Calgary this week and wrote about my ride, my feelings and what bus service means for @thetyee https://t.co/VJk73gCxI0
Today, #greyhound is shutting down vital transportation operations across the Prairies. Only vague promises from the federal government on how that gap will be filled... “These kinds of bus services are not a luxury." @rhfloon VP https://t.co/oJCfR2TS2y #ableg#abroads#cdnpoli
Not a perfect solution, but a start. Concerned that this is too close to the previous solution where private companies made bank on major routes while rural runs were subsidized in a haphazard manner.

Today service ends and there and there is still no plan from federal government.
Some routes will be served but most rural communities won’t be, and travel across Canada is limited.
The push for a safe, affordable, and reliable public services will continue because it is just.
So I'm guessing there was nothing at the Alberta NDP convention about expanding bus service to cover abandoned Greyhound routes?
