When my husband died, because he was so famous and known for not being a believer, many people would come up to me-it still sometimes happens-and ask me if Carl changed at the end and converted to a belief in an afterlife. They also frequently ask me if I think I will see him again.
Carl faced his death with unflagging courage and never sought refuge in illusions. The tragedy was that we knew we would never see each other again. I don't ever expect to be reunited with Carl.
But, the great thing is that when we were together, for nearly twenty years, we lived with a vivid appreciation of how brief and precious life is. We never trivialized the meaning of death by pretending it was anything other than a final parting. Every single moment that we were alive and we were together was miraculous-not miraculous in the sense of inexplicable or supernatural.
We knew we were beneficiaries of chance. . . .
That pure chance could be so generous and so kind. . . .
That we could find each other, as Carl wrote so beautifully in Cosmos, you know, in the vastness of space and the immensity of time. . . .
That we could be together for twenty years. That is something which sustains me and it’s much more meaningful. . . .
The way he treated me and the way I treated him, the way we took care of each other and our family, while he lived. That is so much more important than the idea I will see him someday. I don't think I'll ever see Carl again. But I saw him. We saw each other. We found each other in the cosmos, and that was wonderful.

Dear @AGPamBondi: Since you creepily spied on the unredacted Epstein files I read, you know I read this one.
Witness calls FBI’s NTOC and reports girl, later found dead, told him Trump and Epstein raped her.
DOJ NEVER INTERVIEWS WITNESS.
When will DOJ interview this witness?
BREAKING: A billionaire is reportedly buying every billboard within 3 miles of Mike Johnson's house, and putting up images of the Epstein Files that name drop Donald Trump so Johnson can't say he didn't see them anymore.
There’s a universe in which Donald Trump got hugged by his dad, Stephen Miller had a date to the prom, and Mike Johnson embraced his sexuality and in THAT universe, we have flying cars and free healthcare.
BREAKING: Trump left FURIOUS after musicians cancel their shows left and right at the Kennedy Center in protest of his takeover!
Jazz legend Chuck Redd made headlines last week for canceling his planned Christmas jazz concert in direct response to Trump putting his name on the walls, but he’s not the only one.
Lin-Manuel Miranda has cancelled the entire run of the 10-year-anniversary celebration of Hamilton. “Morally, it was not complicated, because the Kennedy Center has historically been a bipartisan birthplace for the best of our nation's arts. Trump's administration politicized that when they fired the board and Trump named himself head of it…It was a very easy decision for us to not participate in what that's becoming."
Issa Rae cancelled her sold-out show, saying that “unfortunately, due to what I believe to be an infringement on the values of an institution that has faithfully celebrated artists of all backgrounds through all mediums, I’ve decided to cancel my appearance at this venue.”
Pulitzer Prize-winning folk singer Rhiannon Giddens cancelled her show at the Kennedy Center back in February, saying “I cannot in good conscience play at The Kennedy with the recent programming changes forced on the institution by this new board."
Peter Wolf, lead singer of the J. Giels band, also cancelled his show at the Kennedy Center "due to the egregious firing of staff by the new administration."
Low Cut Connie, a Philly-based rock and soul band, cancelled their concert at the Kennedy Center for similar reasons. “I was very excited to perform as part of this wonderful institution’s Social Impact series, which emphasizes community, joy, justice and equity through the arts. Upon learning that this institution that has run non-partisan for 54 years is now chaired by President Trump himself and his regime, I decided I will not perform there,” wrote frontman Adam Weiner on Instagram.
ALL musicians need to boycott the Kennedy Center until Trump gives up control and takes his name off this once-prestigious institution.
Hope you got Kid Rock on speed dial, Donald, because that’s the only musical “talent” you’ll be able to get to play there!
