I'm Dr. Desi now! To defend on my homelands in our tribal college with family, friends & my fellow tribal citizens on the line is surreal. I had my son in the middle of the grind. He graduates today too. Nea'eše to my amazing @ua_sociology committee. I'll never forget today. 🙌🏾

My latest story for @Stacker explores how Indigenous data warriors like @native4data & @echohawkd3 are fighting for data sovereignty: Indigenous systems for gathering and using data in spite of a system built to exclude them. Read it here: https://t.co/1pJqsM87eA

As a Kānaka Maoli, stemming from seven generations here on Maui. This is heartbreaking to watch. Colonial greed is burning down our home. And it’s US politicians and polluters to blame. #ClimateEmergency

[Uahikea Maile @uahikea]

Wildfires rage on, from Maui to Ontario, while lands continue to be developed for extraction. Indigenous peoples are disproportionately impacted despite overrepresentation in protecting global biodiversity. How’s your International Indigenous People’s Day taking climate action?

[Kaniela Ing @KanielaIng]

To reporters covering the #MauiFire: Please stop characterizing Front Street and Lahaina Town as a “tourist spot”

It was the original Capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom.

King Kamehameha’s palace is here.

Kānaka Maoli still live here, on their ancestral land from the 1800s.

It has been a great day for the internet and TikTok because of the swim warrior and chair warrior. I already know what all my peeps are getting for Christmas.

Visiting research partners means spending time w tribal nations & Native serving orgs. It means bearing witness to breaking cycles of generational trauma. It means dreaming Indigenous futures. It means Native women are f’ing phenomenal. Pay us, listen to
us, get out of our way!

What’s your purpose? Let’s be inspired…together!

[Dr. Dr. Desi (she/her) @native4data]

Do you know what’s powerful? That feeling of genuinely being in your purpose. Mine is to support tribes & Native orgs in rebuilding data power to move our communities forward on our terms. It’s so f’ing beautiful how we keep resisting & thriving against all odds. #wearestillhere

The latest in the chronicles of mediocre white men…let’s be honest, if he was not a white
man, there’d be damning
professional consequences and not just an opportunity to lighten his load.

Do y’all ever wonder where you went wrong? My college roommates are buying multimillion dollar houses. I’m really happy for them. And questioning my life choices. I can’t even afford an apartment in LA.

[Dr. Dr. Desi (she/her) @native4data]

I should clarify, where can I point her to find dissertation completion funding? Does that exist anymore?

[Dr. Dr. Desi (she/her) @native4data]

I need help for grant ideas/funding for an Indigenous elder culture bearer who is also a PhD candidate and needs a grant to finish writing her dissertation. Any ideas?

I am not a Diné/Navajo person, so I will not comment further except to say that these white Ivy League researchers are gonna get so much mileage out of this for their own careers and I just… 😩

[Buu Van Nygren @BuuVanNygren]

I asked a group of 11 Ivy League university alumni to send their brightest students, graduates, and professors to help the Navajo Nation solve its most persistent economic problems. As a nation, as a government, we’re always trying to find avenues to help our people.
