AbulAzhar al-Mughirah ibn Farwah (RA) and Yazid ibn AbuMalik (RA) reported: Mu'awiyah performed ablution before the people, as he saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) performed ablution. When he reached the stage of wiping his head, he took a handful of water and poured it with his left hand over the middle of his head so much so that drops of water came down or almost came down. Then he wiped (his head) from its front to its back and from its back to its front.

In Kruger National Park, South Africa, veteran ranger Sipho Nkosi suffered a heart attack while on solo patrol. His vehicle was found empty, and search teams began looking for him.

What the park’s remote trail cameras revealed broke the hearts of everyone who saw the footage.

An old bull elephant — known to rangers as “Mnumzane” (Zulu for “Sir”) — had found Sipho’s body. For three full days and nights, the elephant refused to leave. He stood guard, gently touching the ranger with his trunk, chasing away hyenas and jackals that came too close, and even covering parts of the body with branches and leaves.

On the third night, the elephant was still there — visibly grieving, swaying slowly beside his fallen friend. Only when the full recovery team arrived with vehicles did Mnumzane finally step back, watching solemnly as they carried Sipho away.

Park officials later confirmed that Sipho had rescued this same elephant as a calf years earlier after poachers killed his mother. The elephant had never forgotten.

One colleague who viewed the footage whispered:

“He didn’t come to say goodbye. He came to make sure no one disrespected his brother.”

Mnumzane still visits the exact spot regularly. Rangers now leave fresh water and fruit there in honor of both.

A Nairobi lady has sued Safaricom PLC after her KSh 2,700, mistakenly sent via M-Pesa, was used to offset the recipient’s Fuliza debt.

Her reversal request was declined. She has now moved to the High Court challenging that policy as unconstitutional.

When I send money to someone, my intention is clear that I am transferring funds to THAT person. I am not entering into a contract with Safaricom to help them recover loans. I am not agreeing to become a guarantor. I am not volunteering to settle another adult’s overdraft.

How then does my money automatically clear someone else’s debt without my consent?

We must be very careful as a country not to normalise silent policies that shift financial burdens to third parties. Digital convenience should not override basic principles of fairness and property rights.

Yes, the recipient may have agreed to Fuliza terms. But I did not.And this is the core issue.

If money is mistakenly sent and reversal is denied because it has already been swallowed by a debt recovery system, then we are creating a dangerous precedent one where corporations quietly prioritise loan recovery over consumer protection.

At the very least, there should be a clear warning before completing a transaction:“The recipient has an outstanding Fuliza balance. Funds may be used to offset debt. Proceed?”

This case is bigger than 2,700 shillings. It is about how far automated financial systems can go without violating basic rights.
